Location: Hayward, WI | If it's an easy fix and you like the motor it could certainly be worth fixing. If it's a headache or expensive to fix, it does sound like a good chance to upgrade.
After using a standard Powerdrive for years (after running cable steers for a while before that), I didn't think I needed an Ipilot with autopilot, spot lock, etc. Now that I got one this year, I love it! I'd have a hard time going backwards now.
Anyway, it could be the main seal on the motor housing, but it would be surprising for it to go bad after replacing it a few years ago. Is there any water in the housing if you pull that off? Last time I had a Maxxum apart it was pretty simple actually. Remove the prop, and a couple long hex bolts and you can pull the motor out, replace the brushes, etc. pretty easy. I'd at least open the motor housing up and see if there's any moisture inside.
If you're talking about it not working with the pedal being wet you might just need a new pedal. |

Location: New Hope MN | I think Minn Kota should use you as an advertising example and give you an I-Pilot for free... 20yrs is a long long time for something that is electrical, gets direct sun exposure, likely smashed against rocks, and is submerged in water. Just wow. |

Would seem like it has to be getting water in it. Unless there's a wiring problem, and deploying the motor is disconnecting a broken wire and stowing it allows it to make contact. |

Location: Ludington, MI | Good thinking. I think it's just leaking because it'll work for a minute or two down then craps out. Then after it's on the deck for a while it works again. I'm guessing it's the seals. The laundromat/authorized service center (seriously) I took it to last time is no longer on the list, so maybe I'll try it with a parts kit on my own this time.
