Location: Mapleton Mn | Just wondering how the weeds are doing on leech. Have heard that there isn't much up yet. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks |

Location: Twin Cities | Was up there two weeks ago and weed growth was almost non-existent but I am sure it has been going strong with the good temps past few weeks. I was mainly in sucker but looked in portage too and didn't see anything in portage-west side. There are a few decent patches in sucker but nothing great. Are you heading up? |

Location: Ames, Iowa | Just got back today from 6 days up there on the east side. Good weed growth everywhere we went that was supposed to have weeds. Battle Point looks good and Headquarters has a lot of new cabbage we usually see as brown when we go up in August.
Fresh cabbage in places near Pelican I didn't expect it. Wonder how long it'll be there. |

Location: Ames, Iowa | A large fish with an aggressive follow of a bucktail on the first cast of the trip by my son. In Headquarters in shallow cabbage next to bullrushes, not exactly a summer hotspot for muskie hunting, but this early in the year it made sense to me. A 38 incher we spotted on the shallow rocks at Pipe got excited over the same bucktail. That was it for muskies. We hit some of the typical summer spots like Red Rocks, Pipe and Battle and Pelican with nothing. I usually don't get to Leech this early. Because of a break in my driver's ed schedule, I had 7 days and decided it was a chance to fish, relax, and work on my trolling motor and electrical setup . I'll be there 1 week July 18-26 and then August 1st thru 16th. Muskies definitely the focus at that time. |

| Was on leech Saturday 6/27 fishing by myself. Never really fished leech before, but my wife and her sister wanted to do some biking/camping around Walker so I had them drop me off at the shingobee access for the day and fished out from there. Was frustrating as my confidence is in deep cabbage edges and the first 5 or so spots I checked had no weeds to be found. I finally found a spot with good weed growth out to about 9-10 fow and also found fish. Had a mid 30s and low 40s up to the boat, lost a heavy fish after a couple head shakes, and stuck a 47" all on that weedline in about 2 hours. Radar showed nasty storms rolling in so I was chased off the lake by 6 pm... Leech is no place for a 14' boat during a tornado watch.

Did you notice anything about that spot that would explain why there were weeds there and not at the other spots you checked? I.e. if you were looking for other weed spots now, what would you be looking for, other than actual weeds showing up on the sonar? Shoreline features, direction of drop-off, etc.
I ask because I struggled finding weeds in that area the one time that I was there. |

Thanks for the kind words. Nothing really special or different there, well not that I could figure out anyway. Something different than I'm used to is the weed edge was way up, like 50 yards, on the flat... Rather than right on the break. |
