Anyone know anything about conditions on the lake south of Kenora? Water temps/levels or weed growth? Heading to Ptarmigan bay area at the end of the week.
Thanks

I've heard water is about 6 inches low.

I am heading up on Friday to Nestor Falls. Usually I go up around the end of Aug early Sept. This will be the first time I go up this early. Any tips on early Muskie fishing this this time of year.

Crow Rock Lodge. Advertise a mainlodge and some private islands. The one closest to Ptarmigan would have to be Ash Rapids Camp I would think, but they must be 8 miles to Ptarmigan if I remember right from the maps. I have always thought that would be a neat place to stay but my understanding is the density is a bit lower over that way.

Otherwise Wiley Point or Big Narrows would be within fishing range of Ptarmigan though I don't know why you would drive past all the water you would have to on the way there. Or if you stayed at one of the Kenora places you could boat down or trailer over to the clearwater bay launch and head down to Ptarmigan.

Smaller tails ( showgirls, Mepps Marabous) smaller cranks like a 5-6" crane, and fish the same stuff . This time a year you will often see more fish with less biters but they should be going just fine next week. Already have seen plenty of nice fish caught

I have stayed at Crow Rock Lodge many times at beginning of musky season. Will start east end of Ptarmigan Bay at the "bus stop" and work may way west all day. The only lures I throw this time of year that have worked very well are black bucktails, cisco kids and bomber Long A mags. (6-7 inch shallow crank bait) In the past I have tried the cowgirls, pounders and other big baits and they just are not a succesful at this time of year. I also fish the north east end of the Big Narrows and as Nick stated you can't go wrong there either.

I've been going in mid-late June now for 10years. The fishing is all over the place, it just depends on the weather and the water. I've seen walleyes spawning at the end of June...Weather looks good over the next week so I am hoping the muskies are eating after the spawn

I fished Wiley Point area earlier this month (pre-Musky) and knocked it out of the park. Amazing fishing.

I have found from fishing this area in spring for 20 years that Muskies respond to smaller baits (#5 Mepps etc) . Black Fury Mepps in Black/Yellow always work best. Another favorite is Silver with purple bucktail.

Good luck

Fished 5 days in the Ash Rapids/Ptarmigan Bay area. 38, 40, 44.5 caught. Saw some nice fish as well. They were chasing just about everything but were very lethargic for the figure 8. 2 of the fish came fishing topwaters slow at night over rocks. Blades seemed to get more attention as the week went on. Surface temps ranged from 69-75. Weed growth seemed to be running average to slightly below average. Fish starting to move to classic summer points/spots.

Just got back from Wiley Point and had a good week. Camp guides were complaining about preseason poaching of muskies. Not illegal as long as they don't lift them out of the water but unethical. also stressing prespawn and spawning females. Too bad
