Location: north central wisconsin | I've been using Eagle Claw 774m treble hooks in size 1-5/0 for all of my walleye through Musky lures for over 20 years now. I recently purchased 4 bags of replacement hooks in sizes 1/0-5/0 and have noticed something a bit disturbing to me in terms of the make-up of these hooks. They looked eerily similar to the VMC hooks that sometimes come on my lures that are quickly swapped out. The hooks are cone pointed now(not as durable) and about 80% the thickness of my standard 774's. Did these hooks change, or was I taken for a chump at my retailer? I'm really hoping it's the latter. |

Location: 15 miles east of Lake Kinkaid | We use 774s for all of Llungen lures bucktails. I just got 500x in several sizes, and they are not any different. 774s are great hooks IMO because they come sharp, can be sharpened to a cutting razor point and the diameter/strength ratio is excellent. I would guess you were sold VMCs. |
