| Hey guys, I have been doing more trolling, but I only have ram rod holders and am nervous about my rods getting pulled out by a fish or a snag. I'm wondering if anyone on here uses a leash system to ensure they don't lose a rod and reel? If so, could you maybe post a picture or let me know how you set it up. Any info is greatly appreciated and may help me save a rod. Hahaha thanks! |

Location: SE, WI. | I used Rams many moons ago. Good holders! have some give to them. Eventually, the metal post in the plastic housing would shift on me. SO, I drilled a hole in the middle of the post, and stuck a spring pin through. Worked for years. No worries!!! But eventually sold them to a walleye guy. if you needed to , you can drill a hole in back part of Rod holder, and use a bungy cord with hooks to ensure safe keeping:) JD

| I don't use RAM holders but my brackets and holders are still plastic. Never had any issues here, but then again I troll with my drag really light. I've had numerous baits get lodged in rocks and never once even questioned the durability of my stuff. If you're a fan of trolling with a heavier drag, then maybe I'd stay away from plastic. |

| Maybe K Jenner can address some of the issues here, but as far as the lost rod trolling, make a leash out of mono or flouro or stranded, whatever you have to " leash" your trolling rigs to the boat |

| I have used "Wise" rod holders forever ,,, no problems ,,, I sharpen my hooks and set the reel star drag on the light side ,,, remember that you have additional drag created by the line guides on the rod ----- jimjimjim |

| I use scottys and after having them pop up and rotate back I drilled a hole through the base and into the rod holder and put a set screw in it. Now they are strong as a rock. I've caught them on the dock post coming in and it brought the boat to a stop. I run my drag real tight too and there's no reason to be afraid of the plastic breaking. |

Location: Oregon, WI | Used scottys prior to getting a new boat and now have used folbe's the last 2 years with no problems. Haven't run them into the dock like DH but have snagged things that didn't move without them breaking. |
