I am a 2006 Alumacraft Naviagtor 17 ft. Last summer on vacation worked great for a day, then it wont start had to power or nothing. 1 cable hooked the battery is causing the issues. Unhocked that cable started every time. It was the cable the controls the fuel gauge. Can connect to battery to check fuel level but if its hooked on its causes a short or something for boat to have no power, didn't use boat all winter last month took to dealer to have it looked at, they couldn't find anything wrong with it started perfect everytime. got it home was ok twice now same thing I can not have cable for the fuel gauge hooked to the battery or the boat wont start. any suggestions on a cause??? also have a 12 cell battery die to 6 cells in a month time. my battery to start the boat dies within days have to charge all the time

Typically the power to the fuel gauge comes from the ignition and not straight from the battery. This could be causing a problem. How are the other gauges powered?

The fuel sender can be grounded right to the battery, but I am not sure how that could cause your motor not to start? Is there a fuse that blows and causes the motor not to start? Have you traced the wire that you remove and make sure it is actually for the fuel gauge?
