| Hey guys, just wondered how long you use your leaders, and how worn are they when you decide to trash them for a new one?
I have a few that have some nicks in them, just wondered if i should change em or if they are still good.
Thanks! |

Location: MN | I justed asked stealth tackle this very question. They told me small nicks are fine it's visible cuts or gouges you need to watch out for. They also advises that when your snaps turn from black to silver or shiny you should replace them. |

| I replace them even with small nicks, don't want to chance loseing any musky. Yes, always keep an eye on the snaps, they will just break in half the more you change lures. |

| I had the snap on mine break during my last trip (fortunately while I was changing lures, not while I was fighting a fish!) I'm done with the snap style ones now, I'm going to stick with split rings. It takes a bit longer to change lures, but I don't want to risk losing a fish. |

| Be carefull with split rings on fluoro as they can easily nick the fluoro in the loop where the material is under tension and hard to see any damage that may have occured. I would recommend upsizing and/or changing the snap. The #5 Stay-Loks are hard to beat. As far as when to change a fluoro leader, surface scrapes are fine but when you get a nick in them I would change them out. Kind of a rule of thumb, if you drag your fingernail down your leader and it digs into a nick then change it out. Good advice on the snaps changing color as well. If they are losing their color, chances are the metal is getting fatigued so change them out for peace of mind. |

Location: WI | If the flouro is still good but the snap is shot, just replace the snap. Thorne Bros has Sta Lock snaps by the bag. Alot cheaper than buying new leaders when you don't need too. |

Location: Minnesota. | AHL also has some incredibly strong and dependable snaps that you can use. I'd say they're "lifetime" snaps! I have a bunch.

| If they are long trolling leaders you can cut some off and recrimp the end with a new snap. |
