Time is ALMOST upon us to begin the battle for supremecy....MuskieFIRST 2003 MatchFISHING sign up is going to be next Wed. May 14, at 8PM Central. Once all 32 spots are chosen, pools will be broken out, and displayed on a seperate MatchFISHING Page that Zach is developing now. That should give us all a week and a half to not only talk trash, but to also start scheduling for the first two rounds of pool play.
A few thoughts:
*still contemplating the date of fishing...ie. same day, or up to 3 days apart....still mulling.
*this is about pride, but also having fun.
*the rules will listed in a post just after this one.
*****If you have any questions, email me!!!
Let's get it onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | You've been waiting patiently for these rules for the 2003 Edition of MatchFISHING on MuskieFIRST....well here they are, going to do my best to explain everything here. If I do miss something, or there is a question, please ask it in the thread here. The team that has been working together to hash out the rules in the most fair manner possible has debated this new format for HOURS, many hours...we realize that the way this is going to be done may not be perfect, but we think it'll work well. Before I go into more details, I want to first thank TomyV, MNEsox, Jimmy_K and Luke_Chinewalker for doing as much of the rules ironing out as me, so blame is shared among all of us if this turns to POO....
Second...this is FOR FUN!!! Fun fun fun and maybe a whole lot of pride through bragging rights. Please try to look at the following rules and view them to the SPIRIT of the rule, not the LETTER. There will be loopholes and things that we may have overlooked, but please note those in a constructive fashion here. Entry is free, so money is not on the line, enter or do not enter based on your desire and ability to fish to the committments of entering. The prize will be an engraved plaque presented to winners, so cheating to attain this is just not, well you can finish the sentence. Read below, and remember this is meant for fun and more fun, and to talk alot of (good spirited) trash, and then have more fun trouncing your opponent!
1. 32 teams
2. 32 divided into 8 POOLS of 4
3. Pools to be determined by random number drawing (picking a 1 through 4 out of a hat) and each POOL will have a Team 1, Team 2, Team 3 and Team 4.
4. Pool play will be done during the months of June and July
5. Pool play will be:
Team 1 vs. Team 2
Team 3 vs. Team 4
and
Team 1 vs. Team 3
Team 2 vs. Team 4
6. Pool play matches shall start June 1st, and will be completed by July 31st. The order in which these matches are played out is not important, just that each match is completed before July 31st.
Ex. Team 1 can face off versus Team 2 on Saturday June 7th, and then Team 1 can face off versus Team 3 the next day (the 8th of June) thusly fishing both of their alloted rounds long before July 31st. Or vice versa, the whole pool could conceivabley be fished in the last 2 days of July.
BUT, only one match can be fished by a team in any one day. IE. Team 1 CANNOT fish againt Teams 2 and 3 in the same day, only one day's results can count.
7. A MATCH will consist of: the 2 teams set to "face-off" for a set match will communicate via phone or email to determine a MUTUALLY AGREED UPON DATE to fish....this MATCH does NOT have to be played out on the same body of water, merely the same day.
EX.: Team Musky for Lunch is set to fish against The Rivermen for a match in July. The Rivermen are fishing the Ottawa River in Canada, Musky For Lunch will be fishing Lake XPQR...both will be fishing on Saturday July 26th. The results of each teams day are compared, and the winner will be determined using Muskies Inc's point system (to be explained later).
A TIE will occur when each team BLANKS on their day or does not catch a fish of 30" or better....or in the event that each team earns the same number of MI points in that days fishing.
8. After POOL PLAY is completed, one winner will advance from each POOL. The advancing team is decided by number of match wins during Pool Play, a tie in records will result in the team with the greatest number of accumulated MI points advancing.
Ex I. Team 1 is 2-0, Team 2 is 1-1, Team 3 is 0-2, Team 4 is 1-1: in this case Team 1 will advance with a 2-0 record to represent this pool in the single elimination tournament to follow.
Ex II. Team 1 is 0-0-2, Team 2 is 1-0-1, Team 3 is 0-1-1, Team 4 is 1-1-0, the Team with the greatest number of MI points between teams 2 and 4 will advance to the tournament rounds.
(ie. a tie is equal to a loss basically)
9. In the event that NOT A SINGLE FISH was caught within a pool in the months of June and July and all match fishing days are completed, the team that advances will be picked from a hat for the sake of fairness.
In the event that two or more teams earn the same record of wins/losses/ties AND the same MI point totals, the team that advances will be picked from a hat for the sake of fairness.
10. The 8 winners of the POOLS will advance to a 3 round single elimination tournament.
11. The tournament will be SEEDED according to MI Points earned during pool play. In the case of a TIE in MI Points, a coin will be flipped to determine the higher of the seeds.
12. 8 teams will face off in 4 matches (determined by seeding from MI points) in the month of August. The four teams that advance will then face off according to bracket progression in the month of September. The final two teams will advance to the Championship to be played out in the month of October. A MATCH will consist of: the 2 teams set to "face-off" for tournament match will communicate via phone or email to determine a MUTUALLY AGREED UPON DATE to fish....this MATCH does NOT have to be played out on the same body of water, merely the same day during the month alloted for that round.
EX.: Team Musky for Lunch is set to fish against The Rivermen for a match in August. The Rivermen are fishing the Ottawa River in Canada, Musky For Lunch will be fishing Lake XPQR...the mutually agreed upon day is Saturday August 30th, though they do not have to be on the same body of water, they both must fish on August 30th.
13. In the case of a tie in MI points, or a DOUBLE BLANK in the tournament rounds (August, Sept, October) the accumulated TOTAL MI points up to that round will determine the winner.
EX. I: a tie in August will go the team that earned more points in POOL PLAY
EX. II: a tie in Sept is won by the team that earned more points in POOL PLAY plus in the August round
EX. III: a tie in October is the team that earned more points in POOL PLAY plus in the August round plus the Sept round. OR if both teams decide, another round can be fished later in October, or possibly November. THIS will be judged by the full rules comittee in this case.
14. Either a day or two prior to the agreed upon MatchFISHING date, the participants will email myself or another rules committee member to request their HOUSEHOLD ITEM that must be brought into the boat and displayed along with a fish that is caught during the day of fishing. Each team will have its own ITEM which must be present in the picture as proof that this fish was caught on that day.
It is the responsibility of the teams to ask for their ITEM within this 2 day time period. Being that the dates of matches will be agreed upon by the Teams, with or without the knowledge of the organizers, they must contact myself or a rules committee member to recieve their assigned ITEM.
If a team does NOT ask for this item within 2 days of the days fishing, then no photographic proof is possible for a qualifying fish, and will result in forfeiture.
15. Photographic proof (either displayed on site, or emailed to an organizer) must be submitted within 5 days to verify results.
Results will be reported ASAP, within 3 days at the most.
16. A Team can be both partners fishing their match on the same day, or one member of that team fishing alone, or one member fishing with another person. The add-on or replacement fisher's points will count for that day. ONLY one day can constitute a day's results. EX. Partner A fishes day 1, Partner B fishes day 2...cannot add them, either day 1 or 2 matches with the opponent.
17. During POOL PLAY in the event that no mutually agreed upon date can be managed, a SUBSTITUTE TEAM shall be used.
The SUBSTITUTE TEAM shall be chosen from the teams that sign up after the first 32 teams sign up.
18. A team member may fish with a guide or PRO on their day...Guides and pros are welcome and encouraged to enter this event.
It's free to enter, and on any given day even the best sticks will blank, and even the most novice muskie fishers catch a fish on any given day.
19. 16 hours in one day are the most that a MatchFISHING day can last.
20. The rules of each person's water apply to the methods to catch a fish during that day.
21. The first day of signing up officially will be May 14st, with pool play starting June 1st.
22. The first 32 teams to sign up are IN the pool play, IF 48 teams are interested, the pools will go to 8 pools of 6, and then yes, we will have to change the matches accordingly IF this is the case.
23. Only two people can be in the boat during matchfishing, actually fishing that is.--> MUST BE IN THE SAME BOAT AT ALL TIMES!!!
*Ok, its 12:38 and I'm tired, and I am SURE that I missed things here, note problems in a nice fashion PLEASE, get your team together, and lets get ready to RRRRRRRUUUUUUMMMMMMBBBBBBBLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! And yes, we are going win, Team Musky for Lunch that is!!!!!!
