Location: Hudson,WI | Hey Guys:
I just got a new boat, and the carpet could use a little TLC. What do you guys use to bet it looking new again? I also have a few rust spots, from where the previous owner must've left some tools or something. What do you guys use for rust spots too? Thanks!! |

| Power wash but be very careful not to get the nosel too close. A strong power wash can rip up even a new carpet. Test on an area that is mainly out of sight. You will get a good idea how much you can do. You will also be surprised how much stuff can accumulate in the carpet. |

Location: North Metro, MN | Best thing to do first is have it professionally steam cleaned to restore it, then do the maintenance cleaning yourself. It will run $85-120 avg. for a 16-20 ft boat. If they charge less, there is prob a reason & you may be better off doing it yourself. To maintain it, vacuum first(removes top soil, debris & eases cleaning) then wash it.
I crank up the jack as high as possible so it will drain easier. Laundry detergent diluted down a bit works well. Like wallydoc & rick mentioned, power washing works good, but carefully so you don't rip the piling or loops. Just remember to get everything out you put in or the residue will attract dirt. Nothing at stores is a guarantee to remove rust that I know of, even if it says so. It is possible it can be removed though. Vinegar & water is also a good all purpose spot remover.
Carpet cleaning has been my family's business for as long as I can remember. The mad carpet cleaning scientist (my pops) has helped keep my boat looking pretty amazing despite the slime, fish poo, worm dirt, gulp juice, & crud I've had accumulate. Hope this helps.. |

| I use a drop of Dawn dish detergent and pressure wash it around the carpet. A little dab goes a long ways, then shop vac the water out. |

My wife picked up this thing to clean our carpet downstairs. And we've now used it on the boat a few times. It works great! Makes the carpet look like new again. |

Anybody had any luck using Whinks rust stain remover, in the brown bottle?
I thought about using ZEROREZ but they wanted $180 minimum to clean it!! |

Location: Detroit River | Try Blue Coral carpet cleaner. You'll find it in the automotive section with the car wash & wax stuff at most stores. I've gotten out motor oil stains with it.
