What part of the spawning ritual will be taking place on the southern WI opener? Pre, during or post spawn for lakes south of 10?

They have been spawning for over a week in a couple different watersheds below 10! been watching a couple nice ones,no monsters though! but the way it looks it will be spawn/post-spawn! Handy

I took my boat out for the spring shakedown the other day and was getting 50 to 52 degrees which means, if it stays at those temps, we're looking at pre-spawn conditions.  I talked with some of the fine folks at the DNR who were checking fyke nets.  It sounds like they haven't been seeing the muskies moving up into the creeks.

The lakes in the Milwaukee area are around 52 to 55 degrees. The muskies have been working the rivers and shallow bays for about two weeks. Most will be fishing spawning muskies this weekend. Not what you would hope for but thats what mother nature dealt us. I am fishing for post spawn fish this weekend using a different pattern than what I wanted, this will give the spawners some extra time to do their thing. If you want to target spawning fish go very shallow, I will be fishing the weed beds this weekend.

Those fish that are left still spawning are pretty much un-catchable! No matter how good one thinks they are you can`t make those fish just bite! Those males will become active first. And everyone thinks that water temps need to be around 55 deg. to start the spawn, its alot lower then that in the areas we have been watching fish for quite awhile already! Handy is right. Muskies seem to be nearly done spawning here, even though my boat only reads 49-51 degrees. If your boat is reading 51, it is warmer than that somewhere, and muskies will and do spawn in water that is as cold as 47-48 degrees(we watch them on the river). We have some creekes that are less than a foot deep that warm to air temp quickly and those fish feel that from a long ways off, and get to it. When we had those few days in the 80's here, I suspect most finished up, though we see them going through the ritual over and over again on the river till about may 7th or 8th each year.
