Hey Guys,
Wondering if anyone might be able to help me identify a problem I'm having with my Depth Finder. Recently, after a day of fishing, when approaching the dock, I got a little too close, and knocked my unit off it's holder, and basically into my lap! The wires were still attached, but didn't think of it further as it was still powered up. The next day i went to check it, and it powered up for about 5 seconds, and shut down.
I've tried repeatedly to power up, cleaning the power cord that hooks up , and checked the 3 amp fuse, which looked good...but still no juice!
Wondering if a diagnostic test might be needed?
I called Lowrance, and right away, wanted me to upgrade. I hope that I don't have to go that route, as I really like this unit. Makes trolling a bit harder without it.

Anybody have any suggestions or ideas? Thanks
Chemi

Sounds like it may be shutting down because it's sensing the voltage is too low. Maybe a wire somewhere got pulled a little and isn't making a good connection anymore. Have you checked the voltage with a voltmeter at the power lead to the unit? Do all the pins look like they stick out by the same amount in the power lead that plugs into the Lowrance? Even if the pins look OK, a wire may still have pulled out of the back of one of the pins a little...

You obviously pulled or knocked something loose when you hit the dock.

Try checking the weakest link in the power cord first, especially the in-line fuse area where the wires are crimped together, it should be pretty easy to pin point the problem with a test light.

I believe I can help you... Which Elite-5? HDI, CHIRP or older model. Do you have another power cable you can plug it into to test the unit.... Tom Branch (Lowrance Prostaffer)

My new gen2touch7 went into standby mode (unknown to me)on it,s own the first hour after i got to use it and would not come back on.Returned it to store and they would not replace it ,but sent to service center for Lowrance Products and store offered to upgrade to larger unit x number dollars if unit could not be fixed.Service center called and said unit checked out ok ,that it was in standby mode and i owed them $30.00. To make a long story short it still does it periodically useually if i,m out for longer times 4, 5 hours and if lake is choppy. I installed a volt meter and voltage is fine,i think it over heats or something is faulty inside ,Good luck getting yours fixed.
