Location: Yahara River Chain | I think the ss stands for stainless steel gears, while the C3 has brass gears. |

Location: SW Ohio | I have an Abu SSC4 that I picked up used at a swap meet about 4 or 5 years ago... as far as I can tell, it is the same as an Abu C4, except it has the push button free spool instead of the thumb bar. |

The push button is a 6500C4 and the thumb bar is a 6600 model,
I still think the ss stands for stainless steel gears. Checking the schematics, the gear numbers are different. |

Location: Western U.P. | Abu Garcia made the SSC and SSC3 reels for a sporting goods company 7 or 8 + ?? years ago (private label models with a mix/match of parts to differentiate them from the AG models at the time). The initials of the company were SS. Can't remember their name, but a good reel repair person should. I picked up a 6500SSC3 several years ago, and took it to Mats Reel Repair for a good cleaning when he told me the story behind it. The SSC's and SSC3's did have some different stainless steel/aluminum parts that the reg AG models didn't, and the SSC3's have a thumb bar in place of the button on the SSC's. Kind of wish I had kept that 6500SSC3, it was a solid reel. |

| I have a 6500 SSC3. It is red and has 5.3 gears and a thumb bar. It is like a 6600 C4 with 5.3 gears and a red frame.
There is also a reel that Abu Garcia used to make that had stainless gears that was heavier duty. It was designed for salt water jigging or bottom fishing. It did not have a cast control other than spool tension knob. It weighed a couple ounces more than a standard 6500 due the stainless steel construction. I forget the nomenclature, but it has SS in the name. That one was silver. |

Location: Eagle River | I believe the SS stood for Sports Specialist, they had the reels made for them as a promotion. They are exactly the same internally as an C3, they just added a thumb bar and a red color. Plus I believe at the time they sold for $15-20 less than the C3. We pick them up when ever we can. |
