| I have a friend that has offered to sell a 1994 Sylvan deep v, 19 Pro Select with a 2006 115 Yamaha 4-stroke on it. He says he'll sell it to me close to the appraisal value.
The boat was always garaged and I believe it is clean and in good shape but I imagine I'll want to update the electronics and probably fix a few minor items.
I'm doing some research to see if there are any issues with either but thought I'd ask the guys on here for the thoughts.
Anyone have experience with either?

Location: oswego, il | I have fished from an 18ft version. If it is a good deal go for it. Will work in rough water and be a decent salmon boat. There are better layouts but it isn't bad. Probably get it cheap. |

Location: Duluth, MN | Awesome engine there. I have a 2003 and finally had to take apart the VST tank and clean it out and replace the filter.
If that hasn't been done yet plan on getting it done by a dealer if your not comfortable doing it. Probably a $200 job and might as well get the impeller replaced at the same time and you'll be good to go.

Location: Northwest WI | It's a great boat. I bought one new in 1993 and used it 'til 2003. Mine was powered by a 115 Mariner which did a good job. I lived in Michigan at the time and used it a lot on Lake Erie, which it handled well. In the late 90's I lived in Northern IL and trailered it regularly to WI, Northern Minnesota, and even LOTW a couple of times. It's a good boat that trailers nicely, handles big water, yet can be dropped into smaller waters depending on the trailer. (mine was on a roller trailer)
It's also a good family boat for skiing and general boating. Lots of capacity, and the high sides make people comfortable.
I sold this boat in 2003 and bought a new showroom new 2001 Sylvan Excursion which I still fish today. The Excursion has a bigger front deck, a wider beam, shallower draft and a rear casting deck that goes all the way to the transom. (versus the Pro Select which has a full splashwell.) I started fishing muskies pretty hard in 2000 and decided I wanted the extra deck surface---thus the change.
I fish big lakes regularly, and LOTW a couple times a year so I know Sylvan' s are seaworthy in big water.
My only complaint---I've never been able to get my transducers to hold the bottom at speed---on either boat. I just can't find the "sweet spot". I used to use Lowrance, and now use Humminbird's...with the same high speed results.
By the by, I run a Yam 150 Four Stroke on my current Sylvan. It's a great motor with plenty of power. A buddy of mine has the Yam 115 Four Stroke on an 1850 Crestliner and it's been a good motor for him.
My thoughts...for whatever they're worth.

| Thanks for the information guys. I've fished out of the boat many times and liked it quite a bit, but it's been over 10 years. The items I was worried about was if there were any complaints of the hull cracking or rivets leaking over time and if the 115 Yamaha had any systemic issues. From what I've been able to find so far there are no systemic issues with either. I imagine with the boat being a 1994 it won't have the beam or storage I'd like, but I'm hoping to get a good deal and having a deep V will fit a lot of my needs better than my bass boat. I'll be sure to look into whether or not there are any maintenance records and replace the filter and impeller. |
