Was out tonight for the last hour off shore and found an area right at dark loaded with Emarald Shiners.A zillion in fact and seen smallies chasing them right out of the water, then while watching the shinie heinies gettin smoked I failed to see right away the wake behind my tallywhacker and I did see the EXPLOSION and a mid-40`s BLOW my bait 3' in the air!NO HOOKS!That sucks, but the good part is(still have to figure it out)are the skies eating the shiners and or smallies? Are shiners staging to fall spawn? Is there a pattern to be had?Any thoughts on the shinie heinies? Jeff

Jason, you were right! They are eating the shiners!Me and the boy want out this afternoon and he(the little $hit)got a 43"er on a teasertail and we missed 1 other fish. There is so much bait there that when you bring your lure through there they just scatter right out of the water! They are definatly following the shiners around,in water less than 3' at 52deg.So needless to say,we will also be following the shinie heinies around too! I LIKE Smallmouth...never ate an emerald shiner, but I have seen this on Wabigoon, too. The shiners DO draw the muskies, for sure.[]
