Unfortunately, the SARS virus appears to be spreading. There have already been people in Toronto that have died. Hopefully they have contained it as much as possible. A guy I worked with said they had a woman that wasn't allowed on his plane in Texas because she was suspected of having sars. It turned out to be nothing but that must have been scary. The virus also has been changing as it spreads. I don't thin anyone is in a panic yet but they say if they have to develop a drug from scratch the cure could be more than 5 years away. How far does this thing spread?
I will stay away from Toronto and stay on the lakes where I belong! |

| A truely scary healthcare development that has global implications. Last week I saw tourists in Florida wearing masks.

| I live here in Toronto, well Mississauga, and I am ill today and let me tell you people are avoiding me like the plague. It is a weird site seeing people walking around with masks on and I feel bad for the business owners who have noone in their restaurants and stores. Orientals are being shunned upon and people coughing are ran away from. If you look at the stats though, the chances are slim to get it. I just hope that it doesn't kill me before the opener here.

Location: Freedom, WI | My daugther and wife were supposed to go on a school trip to Toronto today but the school changed it a the last minute and are going to Cleveland and the American side of Niagra Falls instead. The wife was going to cancel if they did'nt (boy am I glad). I feel bad for the people of Toronto, hope they get control of it soon. Musk hope you do not have SARS and get better soon! |

| Unfortunately the disease has not been contained so far, and if it modifies itself to spread more readily(and Darwin thinks it should) it is going to be a terrible problem. Think of the common cold in terms of how it spreads, but all of you have immunity to many different cold viruses and partial immunity to many more strains, most probably, none of you have immunity to this disease. The current death rate is 6-9%, somewhere between 1 in every 20 to 1 in every 10. Consider your family members or a circle of 20 friends. This thing is a terrible problem. As strange as it is, while we were all concentrating on the war with Iraq, a much more serious problem was developing in the far east. Hope I am an alarmist on this one and the problem is much less severe than what I perceive it to be. |

| 1st6', Darwin had an answer for everything BUT the truth! But I think you are right as far as it appears to be ever changing; it is here in northern Va., and on the local news today the school systems state wide are considering a ban on in state field trips. Out of state trips are already on the "no way dude" list. Places here like D.C., Williamsburg and Jamestown will really be sucking wind if this stuff gets around. An elderly lady originally from China unfortunately brought it back w/ her from a recent visit, but I'm not sure what's up w/ that now...let's hope it doesn't keep spreading! |
