Practice practice practice. I've been building for a little while now and I still attend bucktail tying classes when I can to try and pick up new ideas or better ways to do things.

X2.. also don't skimp on the thread and glue.. when I started I tried using cheap stuff and after first couple times out hair was everywhere. Especially with hair make sure to while doing the tie that you put knots in periodically to help it stay tight..

I have a special way of attaching the hair. I do one wrap around each hank before even putting it on the coil. This acts like a noose and makes it harder to pull out even with out glue. I also add a half not on each hank. I started using this when doing what I call pin stripes to keep each color separate. I also use a 6/0 salt water thread which helps from to much build up. I have yet to have any bucktails come apart. I still glue each layer not each hank and top off the last wrap with glue then a layer of hard as nails to help protect the lighter thread I use.

If you only made 2 you haven't started yet! Start messing around with multiple materials; the falshabou accent looks great in the water if used sparingly(keep away from the hook it makes a huge tangle), feathers work nice as well. Tying flashabou is nice but if you want cool original buck tails start mixing up materials.
I learned most of my technique from watching people tie musky flies. Plenty of videos on youtube.
