I'm probably going to replace my marine starting battery this spring. Does anyone have any experience with the Bass Pro brand? I looked at them this morning and they have a 750 cold cranking amp battery for about $150.

I checked with a local Outdoor shop and they sell a Northern battery with 725 cca for $99. Same warranty.

This always puzzles me. Any ideas why there might be such a price difference? I had Northern deep cycle batteries for 7 years so I believe they are good.

If you can fit 31 series I would do it, you will never have to worry about running out of power to start your boat and run your electronics. I squeezed a D31M Optima in mine

What size is your main motor? I'd recommend a dual purpose battery, cranking and deep cycle. I had a group 27 Interstate in my 1890 with a 200 Optimax, and it started that motor no problem, and lasted all day with the livewell, and electronics running. Also had a Trojan on my previous boat.

As an FYI, marine batteries use MCA, or Marine Cranking Amps as their rating. Optimax requires minimum of 1000 MCA. Difference in MCA vs CCA? MCA is rated at 32degrees F, and CCA is at 0 degrees F.

I don't know who makes the Bass Pro battery, but Northern has good history.

75 Etec requires 640CCA/800MCA at a MINIMUM.

At the very least get a battery labeled "Marine Starting" which will have thicker lead plates than a normal starting battery which are engineered to be able to handle the routine drain from things like the electronics/livewell/lights/etc. that a boat uses for long periods when the motor's off.
