I am having issues with my Lowrance HDS 8 units and am fed up with their support. With the issues I have dealt with on almost every Lowrance unit I have owned in 10 years, I am considering buying a Humminbird on my boat to start the transition from Lowrance. I don't want to do a complete change over as I don't want to spend that kind of cash in one year.

Does anyone know if a person can run both brands on a boat without major problems? I know that I can run one as GPS, and other for sonar/structurescan on console, but I also need to have Lowrance up front running, which I like all options available. Will this cause any GPS issues or sonar/structurescan issues?

Yes you can run different brands and not have problems. I believe you can not link them..

For what it's worth,I have an 899 hd si 'bird unit on my console with the ducer mounted on the stern. I have a Lowarce Mark-5x on my console also with a shoot-thru-the-hull ducer and I have a lowrance Mark-5x dsi on the bow with the ducer mounted on the trolling motor. I have had no interference issues that i have noticed and all of the units are usually on at the same time. My transition to all 'bird units should be complete in another year or so.

Unit keeps rebooting itself. Usually it keeps doing it over and over, 10-20 times in a row, then all of the sudden it will stop and work. The unit may work for 10 minutes or a few hours, then it goes right back to rebooting. I have updated the software per Lowrance, but it is not helping the issue. Even thought it may be due to Lakemaster chip from info I read, but it still happens with the Lowrance chips. It also is not a power issue or wiring issue, as I have put other units there without the problem.

Any other ideas appreciated.

I checked the voltage as well. No problems there. Plus I put my Gen 2 on those cables to check if it was voltage or wiring issue, but that one worked fine there, so it has to do with the unit itself.

MuskyJim,
I am new to this site and a Lowrance Prostaffer, let me try to help you with your Lowrance issue. A couple questions to start with?
Is the units a Gen1 or Gen2?
What software is it running?
Does the unit work on another set of cables on the boat?
Can you get me a screens shot of the About screen?
Do you have an incident number from customer service?
