How much does hook size affect fishing? For instance you have 2 crankbaits the same size. In my case lure 1 is a 7" Shallowraider and the second lure is a 7" crane 207. The hooks on the crane are much smaller. Am I better off putting larger hooks on the crane or vice versa? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You can always upsize hooks. Joe Bucher did a demo at the chi show once and he demonstrated how hook size affected the shallowraider. Was very intersting.

My choice would be not to go smaller that could change the hooking ability of the lure. Some lures change the way they work by changing to different hooks. A lot of people like round bend hooks for hardbaits (gets the tips past the edge of the body). Just remember the bigger the hook the more weight. You can also take a 3 hook bait and go to 2 larger hooks (some people leave the rear hook off). One more thing a larger hook on one end can help (have one bait that works better with 3/0 in front and a 2/0 in the back). Just make sure the hooks do not tangle when you are done. Do not know if I answered your question but I gave you some food for thought.

I reduced the size on my straight shallowraiders and I couldn't troll them anymore, they just ran to the surface. With the original hooks on them, it worked. But when casting I didn't see any difference, other than it rose a bit faster. Just a bit though.

I put size 2/0 roundbends on the crane 207 and that works just fine, even smaller hooks work well!

I agree with 2/0 hooks on the crane 207. It comes with either 1's or 2's which are pretty small for a 7" lure. You could also put 2 4/0 or 5/0 hooks on instead of 3 2/0's
