Has anyone on here ever added weight to the back end of a St. Croix LT Muskie series rod? I have a big dawg and big nasty and I want to add some weight to the back end of the rod. I still want to be able to grab the back handle for figure 8'ing and casting....any ideas or pics for me...Thanks

Thorne bros or a professional/experienced rod builder could add an extension with some extra weight

Dont like rod balancer. It flexes when casting n the 3 didcs it comes with isnt enough weight. I drill a small hole in butt n work my way bigger. Be careful to keep bit straight. Get .5" threaded bar, can get at any hardware store, cut down to 8". (6" workes great for 8'6" rod). Insert to ferl balance. Adjust by inches. Once you like it. Epoxy it in. Then get a piece of bottle cork n epoxy in. Trim it make flush. Treads holds epoxy great. Plamin on doin to my nasty. Already done to dawg rod n mojo. Use piece of tape on end inside rod to mske snug. Have to tap in a bit to fit cork piece. Will not void warrent already talked to stcroix bout it.

Yes between 5-6oz. Makes a pounder fell like nothin. Its all physics. Add weight to below your fulcrum point. Launches point with little effort.used a 3/8 x 6" carriage bolt too.

Showed couple peolpe n they thought rod was lighter because there was little tip weight. Turns rod into a trebuchet. Same science. But launchin baits not pumpkins

+1 Thorne Bros does great work. While I did not have weight added, I did have Thorne Bros add 6" to the full-cork handle on my LT Big Nasty making it 9'6" with a 20" rear-handle.

Caution rod modifications void warranty and modifiers don't warranty either.

Not true. I talked to St. Croix directly and extensions do not void the warranty as long as not where the issue exists. Thorne Brothers said the same...

When I had my rods done, Thorne Bros charged $4.50 per inch added plus $10.00 for the graphite rod extension. The 6" extension added to my LT Big Nasty was about $37.

I've had a rod warrantied from Croix after I extended the but. They called me up and asked if I wanted the same rod back in 1 piece or an upgrade lol. No problems....
