Musky guys went to 80 and 100 lb to get diameter so now we would go to 130 or 150 don't think I'll bother

HorseHunter what do you mean with "to get Diameter" ?

I use 65, 80 and 100 lb depending on set up and would clearly prefer the diameter of the 65lb. But it is just not strong enough for some of the situations.(Big baits)

Look at it this way now you can use a 300D or 300TE or a 50 Toro and use 80lb braid and have almost as much line in 80 lb test as U would with the 400 or 60 Toro.
If you have a reel that only will hold say 75 yards of 100lb test, now it will hold 100 yds !!!!! which means More Line Pickup at the start of the retreive.
A Big Plus for thinner line is in reels that have a Dis-Engaging line system, like the Curado 300, Shimano 300-400D, and the Tranx.
And thinner line will make the lure run deeper !!!!!!!!!!!
If you are getting backlashes then U need to turn on one or two more spool brakes.
What's up with guys that don't want to use spool Brakes ???? Funny and they are the ones that want a thick line to keep from backlashing.

I’ll stick with Cortland. The thickness is a plus as it makes it easier to get backlashes out. I’ve never had to cut out a backlash with Cortland, PP on the other hand just buries within itself.

Like dami0101 says without the diameter the line tends to bury into itself on the spool. Dami next time you get a backlash could you take a picture I've never seen one

Sweet! Is this avaiable to the public yet?

I'd like to get thinner 100 Lb so that my line pick-up is better than with using the thicker stuff.

I would still rather put mono backing on and split a 150 yard spool between two reels. I cant cast anywhere close to 75 yards anyways.

Nice to see it getting progressively thinner. It will be really nice for blades and shallow cranks to get them into the strike zone.

25% thinner means 25% less effect on you "inches per turn" at the end of your cast. You just made your reel faster just by changing your line.

I switched to the thinner Suffix 832 last year...and switched back to the regular Suffix Performance Braid. Almost 0 backlashes with the thicker performance braid and the ones you do get are easy to get out. The 832 is much more prone to backlash and sometimes impossible to get out.

Ideally yea you have your reel tuned just right and it shouldn't backlash no matter what but over the course of the year it adds up to not being worth it.

Sign me up I'll gladly take the extra casting distance, especially with lighter baits. I don't think the gain in speed at the end of the cast would be significant or enough to make a difference though.

I could see this having saltwater applications with 100 yard runs, where fitting more line on the spool is valuable. Only reason I use 80 is to get the thicker diameter to help with knots as many have already posted. I also only replace the top 150 yds. on my 3 muskie reels since I dont troll. I think you'll be able to pick this up on markdown in 6-8 months

I like this idea for bass fishing especially! I can't get much 65lb braid on my pitchin set up. This will help!
