Location: Waukee, IA | I'm planning a trip for early to mid July this summer and I'm wondering how the muskie fishing is out of Miles Bay? I can run a few miles no problem. How are the numbers and size of muskies there? How is the fishing for the other fish (pike, walleye, bass?) Ice never been to the woods and would like to hear what you guys think. |

Location: Duluth, MN | From Mylie's I fished it some last year. It's really not much different than anything else in that area. I'm sure there are many good spots but the extra run time i didn't feel was worth it for what is available closer to Mylies. But i have talked to a group that was going up there most days they were there so i assume they had found some spots. Probably just need to spend more time on it. |

| I'm a total novice on LOTW (only 2 days under my belt), but in September last year, the clearest water I could find was in Miles Bay. There seemed to be more steep-sloping structure up there than to the southeast.
It was somewhat surprising to me that we saw more boat traffic up there than areas closer to Morson.
But again, this is speaking from a VERY limited amount of time on the water. |

Location: Blaine, MN | Fished Miles for the first time a few days last year and liked it a lot.... The size of the fish seemed to be a little more substantial than fish we were contacting closer to camp (Red Wing). The walleye guys were all over the place, and catching lots of fish from what we saw. Ran into the Ontario conservation officers in Miles as well.... Nicest boat of dudes we met all week
"Musky Gear?"
"Yes, Sir!!!"
"Catching Anything?"
"Few every Day!"
"Licenses?"
"Yes Sir, need to check?"
" Nope, gotta run, have a nice day boys."

Location: Waukee, IA | Sounds good. I'm going there with my girlfriend and my parents so hopefully we can get on some fish. I guess for July I should look for cabbage beds and shallow rocks? |

Location: Duluth, MN | Rocks and rocks and more rocks with deep water nearby. But when you find both together then you really have something. The more complex the better.
Seriously though every spot looks good....it's just a matter of putting in the time to get through them all. |

Location: Scandia MN | Don't neglect some of the smaller bays up there. The kid I was with caught a 54 in one of them Labor Day weekend 2013. Turned out to be the biggest muskie out of Mylie's that year. Helluva of fish. Most of the boat traffic seemed to be walleye guys and there are a couple of lodges up there as well. Didn't see much for weeds anywhere and I agree with rocks - rocks- and more rocks then when in doubt try the rocks. |

Location: Waukee, IA | Rocks it is. I love fishing reefs so I'm super excited to get up there. Don't get me wrong, weeds and timber can be fun to fish but tossing a $30 lure on a $8 leader at a submerged Iowa red oak gives me anxiety. |

Location: MN | Not as much weed to be found last year with the high water. Not sure what this year will bring for weed growth. I also prefer rocks but when the weeds are good it can be great there as well |

Make sure your girlfriend, or anybody that's in your boat is comfortable reeling instantly as their bait hits the water, and rarely backlashes, or you'll have the same anxiety on LOTW. Or if they can't do the above, give them topwater.
Seems like ANY cast on LOTW that is allowed to sink, gets hung up on rocks. Then it's either go in to get it and risk banging you boat up on shallow rocks, or break it off.
I stayed at Mylies last year. Made the run to Miles one day. I actually thought it had a fair amount of weeds, at least as much as anywhere else. We didn't see any fish, and didn't stay there long, as when we were in there the water was absolutely green pea soup. I'm sure the wind was just blowing the wrong direction for it that day, and that it isn't typically any worse than other spots on the lake.
Have fun on LOTW. The fishing was tougher than I'd hoped for us last year, but being on LOTW is awesome no matter how you slice it. |

Location: Waukee, IA | I think I'll give the girlfriend a topwater or floating crank so I don't need to worry about her hanging up. I imagine she will be the designated nap taker as well. As for algae, I'm going in mid July so I think I'll be ok, barring a super hot June. Thanks for the info, guys. I'm trying to put together a successful trip so this info is very helpful. |
