| Everyone has their own opinions on brands and models. However, common consensus will tell you that you want some dive and rise jerkbaits like Suick HIs, and gliders like Phantom softtails. |

Location: Minnesota. | Suick boy here. Before last year I just couldn't wrap my head around why a fish would hit a "bit of broomstick" and as such, didn't use one for over 20 yrs.
Last summer I realized what I'd been missing all those years! I had just one last summer. Got around 15 now, the last 4 are handmade. It's going to be a busy year next...!!!
I might have "issues"...*g* |

I'll take a Hellhound over a Phantom any day of the week. In 5 years of using Phantoms on LSC I have yet to catch a musky on them. Hell, I haven't even had a follow using them. That's sad considering on LSC the musky hit just about anything put in front of their face. |

| I guess I will be the guy to disagree with the previous posters on the Phantom. IMO, tons of action and an outstanding lure. I'm actually shocked to hear that some are not getting action from this bait. As previous posters stated, Manta's would be on top of my list as well. I have never used teh Manta Hang 10 but I plan to pick up one this year. I picked up Wade's Wobbler this year for the first time so I am pretty excited about that. Previous poster mentioned the Sure Thing...although I would probably not label it a jerkbait, it would make the top of my list for all baits....that is a fantastic lure! |

Thanks Andy, I have two of them, the larger guy and the smaller 6" er. I'll try them this season.
Man, I have a lot of baits to try out this year. A bit crazy!!

I don't fish a lot of dive and rise baits but do fish gliders. Manta's are easy to work and get a lot of attention but even with upsized hooks fish either miss them because of the mesmorizing glide or poor hook up ratio. I own a few Hellhounds and like them but again not had a lot of success on hook up ratio with upsized hooks. I recently purchased a Stinger from Fat AZ Musky Products and going to give it a try next season - best if both worlds 3 hooks like a Phantom but works like a Hellhound. For deep gliders I own many and swear by them, Hardtail Modivators by MuskyFix (Ben Modica). Next favourite gliders have to be my Hosebait C Flats. |

| It seems the guys who don't like the phantoms prefer gliders that are much easier to work (imo). Once you learn how to work a phantom you will see that you can get them to do much more than just a consistent gliding action like a manta or hellhound. a phantom can be worked to consistently glide, but can also be worked to dance and dart side to side and up and down... Is it a must have? Try one out... Maybe |

Location: Waukee, IA | I have tried phantoms, even complained about the lack of action on here and tried them in a swimming pool using the tips gleaned from that post. Nothing, they just seem to pull straight forward then sink. Short pulls, long pulls, fast, slow. All the same lifeless retrieve... I must not get it. |

Location: North St. Paul, MN | Don't "pull" as you stated...taps! Soft taps, quick taps, hard taps, violent taps of the rod tip will get your phantoms to dance. Do not pull it! It's not a suick.
I get em to dance on straight wire leaders, 7 strand, and floro, swivels, no swivels, snaps, and split rings...does the action differ? Probably, but I can still get them to shimmy, glide, and wobble with any sort of attachment to the line. |

I agree, must be the bait's fault.

I'd agree. A lot of people OVERWORK them such as making bulldawg pulls. A phantom is like jerkbait fishing for bass. It's all about throwing slack into the line. I would agree you get a lot more lookers than biters but they definitely help locating fish. |
