What water temps will you guys get the boat out and start fishing?
My dock and boat go in when the water changes from hard to soft. |

| Even though the musky season is closed in WI I will have my boat in the water the first weekend a ramp is open on the river. If the ice shelf is still at my favorite hole it will be ON for prespawn eyes. |

| Not really looking for a fight...but in the old days, if I spotted any open water, I'd back my Lund onto the ice and see if the weight of the boat and trailer would crash down through it. Then, I'd bust ice to the open spot. Since I switched to Rangers (last three boats) I just don't have the heart to even break the tail-lights--boat's just too pretty! |

Location: north central wisconsin | As a multi species angler, much of my best boat fishing occurs on rivers while folks are still ice fishing the lakes. March is a game of ice fishing one day, in the boat the next, with a steelhead river in between. I actually prefer the extended springs at the expense of cold water for regular opener similar to the last couple, which had the pre spawn through spawn walleye/steelhead bite lasting over a month, with great Walleye year classes pulled off both years. I'd rather not have as much snow though, as the late ice access sucked the last couple years.

Location: minocqua, wi. | ^ exactly ... the prolonged springs can make the really good smb fishing last a long time after what you are talking about too. so many games to play with the scenario setting up as you describe! |

10-4. Because smb is open year round here, that portion is typically an afterthought as I get to fish the prespawn period no matter what. I agree that there was some great fishing for many things based on the luxury of having the entirety of the range of seasons to fish during the open season. |
