Will spotted and barred muskies spawn together? If so how will the new fish look and what characteristics will they have?

I have seen some partially barred/spotted fish from Wabigoon, and asked the fisheries folks there that question. The answer was they were not sure; but what I caught looked like a cross, for sure.
