Just wondering if anyone is going to try dragging additional baits while casting now that it is legal to troll statewide in WI. I'm thinking about dragging topwater, shallow raider, soft plastic, etc.

I didn't think that the trolling laws changed? I thought I read that it had got voted down or something...

To my knowledge, Walker still hasn't signed off on that.

I have done it iL with a tube jig and have caught bass, crappie, and bluegill while musky fishing.I know of one guy who use to catch a couple fish every year dragging a bucktail, the blade barely spun most of the time....0723

I have a bondy bait hanging over the side. I will get a fish every now and then to hit it when I go into my figure 8.

Spring Hearing is 4/13.
Nothing is through yet. A lot of circus acts yet to come. Should be an interesting show.

I've caught fish dragging dawgs while casting. I've had them blow up on creepers but haven't caught one because they're gone by the time I get to the rod. They usually hang on to a dawg just like it's a sucker.

DNR funding has been cut so deeply they can't even afford to update the website !

Nice! Can't say that surprises me. I was hoping to be able to try dragging a few baits, but I'd rather be safe than have the DNR jump me for illegally trolling.

Hawg Wobbler. Creeper. Slow moving great drag baits. Don't need the trolling motor pegged for action.

My friend got a 41" on a Bondy doing that. I've tried Dawgs, Hawg Wobblers, etc but nothing yet. Haven't done it enough!

I have never really understood why people in parts of Wisconsin were so against trolling but had no issue with multiple rods.

It's likely related to the difficulty in casting two rods simultaneously.

Can't cast two at once, but can drag to suckers and cast the third.

to you guys that have had success dragging bondys or dawgs how deep are you keeping them and how close to the boat? I have had a bit of success had some big fish eye them and a couple pike eat them but thats it... I usually drag a bondy when my wife and or daughter are in the boat since they are usually busy doing other things but fishing lol

Thanks guys, a short explanation is mentioned on here. Works good unless you get a windy couple of days prior which creates alot of floating weeds that screw up the plan.

I use a 8-9 foot rod and put it in a rod holder on the opposite side of the boat of where I am casting. I use a line counter trolling reel, set the drag just tight enough that with reel in click mode that line does not come out and then put in rod holder. I watch the sonar and try to put the Bondy at the level I am marking fish. I have found that .08-1 mph seems to work well.

I got a couple on LSC with a Bondy hanging over the side last year and 2-3 hits that didnt hook up as well. Even if you arent moving enough to spin the blade it seems to work, especially in murky water. I had two hits one day and landed one when it was pretty choppy, and had the rod pointed out horizontally which gave the bait a large rise and fall with the rocking of the boat.
X2 on the light drag. I had mine 3-4 feet under the boat is all, so I didnt have to worry about it. In fact I worried about it so little that I accidentally took off for my next spot with it in the water a few times.

Thanks for the replies. I tried dragging a Hellkat a few times (on a lake that had legal trolling) with minimal success. It didn't help having tons of floating veggies. This season I'll try again.
