I am looking to buy a trolling reel before the season and am wondering what is the best for a decent price. Will be using braid, and trolling everywhere from 7.5 inch baits to 14 inch baits. Definitely want one with a line counter. What would be the best reel for me to get for a decent price? Thanks for any info!

I like my Shimano Tekota's. The Okuma Coldwaters are decent for a less expensive option.

Okuma Convectors are very nice and reasonably priced, and also the Okuma Coldwaters if you want to spend a bit more.

Shimano Tekota gets my vote I'm a Shimano guy never had any issues. So no need to try anything else.

I went with a sealine 47 because it matched my NACLs and they get good reviews.

Convectors have treated me well. Mine are going on 6 years and have had no issues. Coldwaters look pretty nice too.

diawa sealine 17's or 27's. have them both for years with 0 problems. drags are smooth and the clickers are loud.

I have looked at the convector a little bit. How much braid will I be able to fit on that reel? I will be using about 100 lb braid..also, what size do you guys reccomended?

Saltist is a great trolling reel. I don't use a line counter that much as I'm pretty familiar with where I fish and what baits I use most often.

Depends on which reel you get to how much line you will need. Since you want to troll 14" baits you will want some cranking power. Okuma has a nice power handle. Get the 30 size minimum in the convector or better. The tekota will work too. I have a couple sealines and they are mighty durable but even with their power handles lack good cranking power.

I have coldwaters, tekotas and convectors. The shimanos are nice if you have extra money to spend. If you go shimano go with at least 600. 500 are just too small imo. However, for the money convectors are hard to beat.

You can fit 150 yd of braid with some mono backing on a 30d convector.

Go with Daiwa or Okuma. Tekota's a great reel, but unless you're trolling the Great Lakes for salmon or lake trout, you just don't need that much reel. (And even most of those guys are using Okumas and Daiwas.) Also, watch Cabela's for sales on their Depthmaster metal linecounters. They regularly go on sale and are the same reel as the Convector.

The best reel for ME is the Okuma Catalina.....Why?

-Loudest Clicker
-Great Drag
-Cranks in big baits at 5 mph with ease.
-Cost
-Durability - I have one thats over 10 years old still going strong

Shimano Tekota 600. IMO best trolling reel for Muskie. Walleye I use Diawa sealines 27.

I troll LSC with both Tekota 600's and okuma coldwaters. Both work extremely well. Just a matter of how much your willing too spend. I'm pretty much a shimano guy as I have never had a single reel #*#* over my 30 years of fishing.

Cheers
