Location: oswego, il | What cameras does everyone use while out fishing? I still don"t care for pictures cell phones take you need really good light and close shots. Technology is not there yet for big image sensors. I have two pocket cameras and love them both. A canon sx280 hs and a Sony rx100 II. The canon takes great shots with a 20x zoom and digital from there to 80x! Great for taking wildlife shots far away from the boat or close ups. After a few thousand shots the lens motor gave out and I got it fixed. I bought the Sony. Expensive but like the canon it has great reviews. This is an incredible camera. Not a ton of zoom but image quality is insane. Huge image sensor and great detail even at night. Night shots with the canon are good too.
Wish I would have posted sooner but canon had a camera sale during the Christmas shopping season. Crazy insane deals. That sx280 which debut at 350 a couple years ago was 107! Still some deals on cameras but many are out of stock. Definitely a place to look at from black Friday to Christmas in the future.

Location: NorthCentral WI | After ruining the last two point and shoot cameras I bought the Fujifilm XP-70 last year. It is the perfect boat camera being waterproof to 33', shockproof and all that for around $150. So far it's been great and was everything I was looking for in that price range. |

| I took a borrowed DSLR and 1 hat mounted GoPro with me last year for my LOTW trip. This year I bought my own new DSLR (mainly for taking pictures other than fishing) and my own GoPro. I found the DSLR a bit clunky and ended up worrying about it a fair amount since it is not water proof. The image quality cannot be beat though.
This year I will be taking two GoPro (probably both hat mount) and my DSLR (Nikon d5300). I consider these things to be essentials for the trip now.
I do have a couple of questions to add on to the conversation:
1. What settings do you find essential for your pics (like a high shutter speed in a boat that is rocking)?
2. Do you guys try to get any specific interesting pictures/angle besides the common ones (guy holding the fish, bump board, and release pics)?

Location: Contrarian Island | Pentax makes some nice waterproof cams... I have one, but I am shocked how good the pics are on my Samsung S4 to the point I have not used my Pentax in 2+ yrs....

Location: oswego, il | I did alot of searching when I bought my Sony rx100 II. Everyone rates the 100, II and III the best pocket camera. It isn't cheap, I shelled out 650 for it and given it's high rating probably won't be cheap anytime soon. Canon just came out with one that is priced with the II and has the same image sensor. A little more zoom.
the sx280 has been rated the best all purpose camera in 2013 and I bought it for it's zoom capabilities after the camera I had was ripped off. I missed alot of cool wildlife shots with my previous small sensor small zoom cameras and this one fit that bill. |

Ended up getting a $100 Sanyo, just because it was on sale. At that price I won't be happy should it end up in the lake, but I won't cry. I've had it 7 years now, and it's served me well.

LOTS MORE "stuff" in it than this dinosaur needs but it was the only waterproof avail. at the time I really needed one and I'm very happy with it. I could play with it for hours but...I have other stuff to diddle with.

| DSLR for sure, you can't match the quality. I've had a D5000 since it came out and it has survived about 6 ice and open water seasons and its still going strong after roughly 40-50,000 shots. The camera has been in temperatures between -10 up to about 95 and has seen rain, snow, sleet and wind. As long as you take care of them they will last, I always put my camera back in the case and I try to keep the case covered (in shanty or under console).
Another great thing with DSLRs is that there are a ton options, when fishing alone you can set them on a tripod and have a remote release and shoot multiple pictures. Point and shoots may be able to do this too but I'm not sure, I haven't used them other than randomly taking pictures for other people.
Also I bought my camera from an electronics store where they had a strong focus on photography, they offered classes, special printing and other really cool offerings. These people knew there stuff and I felt comfortable buying from them. One really nice thing was that they offered an additional warranty, it was about $150 for 3 years and it covered everything, including dropping it in the lake, as long as I was able to bring it in they would replace it no questions asked.

| I use an olympus epm2 for my pocket camera and take my olympus em5 when its going to be wet. They use the same lenses and the em5 is weatherproof. The lenses are tiny in comparison to dslr and the image quality is just as good. I have my epm2 or my epl3 in a small bag with 3 lenses most of the time, and the bag I use is tiny. If i dont have the bag I just toss the camera and a 20mm lens pancake in my pocket. |

Not too bad in the light rain, but not waterproof, and we needed a camera that shoots quality images and has good glass that can take a 2 hour weigh in in a downpour. The mirror-less, waterproof design and great lens choices did the trick. Perfect high quality boat camera.
We have a couple pocket waterproof point and shoot cameras. Not bad, but not good, either. |

I really like having the option of getting a good wildlife, ship or sunset shot with a good camera. I have a Nokia phone and it has one of the better cameras for a phone, I bought it because my old android was so terrible, this one is way better but the pics to me are not great. |

Clearly we are either way ahead or getting killed (probably the latter) as NO ONE is covering the hitter. And, that was my big outside for that team (RIP Roadhouse) so either she's getting the kill or we're screwed regardless.
AND, have a men's 6s game set up for this Sunday (invite only deal) in Hoffman Estates if you're interested in jumping in. My usual middle who runs the 31 is p*ssing out so... |

And now looking again....terrible set (she's 5' off) and the blocker is like 6'3". Our big girl (see right side) was amazingly hung over from the day before and spent half the tourney puking her guts out...not a good ending to that tourney. |
