Location: NE PA | Has anyone done this before? I was thinking about using my Ipad as my screen for the front of my boat. I wanted to project the image from my Hbird 798HD to the ipad. I know I would have no control over the settings from the front, but I don't really need the second unit except for display purposes. Thanks guys,

Location: NE PA | I'm not sure if it is possible, but the cost of an iPad is a lot less than a big screen HB esp when my 798 does everything that a larger unit does. With an otter box case on it, it is waterproof too. Figured I could just ram mount it... |

Location: Minnesota: where it's tough to be a sportsfan! | I LOVE these types of questions! Why can't we connect our laptops, pads, tablets, even smart phones to our depthfinders? Why don't depthfinders have USB ports and software interface that would allow mapping program direct feeds? If I look at the cost of the new units, I think they should. |

Location: Grand Rapids, MI | Possible? Sure. Will any of the manufacturers unlock these features? Unlikely. If they keep the ability to share map chip data between linked units locked (so we have to buy two map chips) they're not likely to make it possible to share the image from the graph to another device. Just my opinion. |

| I have a friend with this setup. He's got a Lowrance gen 2 touch, and a Lowrance router which enables a WIFI network in the boat. (I think gen 3 has this router built in) Then he just plugs his iPad in at the bow to a usb charger he installed, connects to the wifi access point, opens up the lowrance app, and it's an exact replica of the main depthfinder. It's really slick, but on sunny days it's hard to read the ipad. He's going to replace it with a traditional depthfinder instead. |

Location: Wisconsin | I have the Navionics apps on my iPhones and Galaxy tablet, but I don't like having them around the deck if it happens to rain or them getting wet. For all the money you would use on getting the equipment to have a network wifi in the boat, the tablet and any type of waterproof case you can just buy another locator. |

Location: Mayville, WI | I've been looking for a similar setup for a while. Bird's bigger units (858+) have a video out option on them, so theoretically you should be able to run a video cable to a dummy screen (lcd) up front. Unfortunately, finding a decently priced (under $500 even) waterproof/resistant LCD screen (just a screen with video-in, no computer), is impossible. |

| Seems like a great option. Under $300 for a waterproof case and wifi. Plus you can play Candy Crush while trolling. |

Just to clarify, the sonar phone is a wifi hotspot/wireless transducer? Does it have DI? |
