Random thought, I have a 1989 Tuffy with a 100 hp Mariner, can I convert from steering to tiller by purchasing a kit or something?????? I did a google search and came up with all kinds of useless stuff and figured someone on here has probably done it or knows someone who has done it if it can be done!!!!

Thanks Troll

Which model? it probably will not legally carry a USCG rating for a 100 HP tiller.

It is a 89 Tuffy 180 Sportsman MWC.

I have to gut the boat and thought the extra room would be nice to have, if I cant no big deal

That hull rates at 75 for a tiller if I remember correctly.

Sorry if this is dumb to ask but, It came with the 100 on it. Why would it matter if I steer from a spot 3 ft back from where it is now??

It matters to the US Coast Guard. Tiller models steer more abruptly, vision across the bow is not as good, much easier to lose control, etc. Many state Natural resources officers and Sheriff Patrols enforce the USCG Horsepower regulations.

At least in theory they're supposed to. Haha.
