Zach and I have been working on a section for the site that is chock full of questions and the best answers we can find on every facet of Muskie fishing we can imagine.

If you were to have only one question about muskies and muskie fishing and  be able to get the answer in a few seconds, what would that question be?

Post ONLY questions to this thread, no answers yet, please!!

Here is the deal:

We will give away a MuskieFIRST Sweatshirt and T shirt in a drawing from all the folks who post to this thread. We will close the thread when we hit 50 questions, and open another with another sweatshirt awarded.

Silly questions or questions that don't apply will be deleted, and won't count.

Question:

If I was new to musky fishing, what 2 rod actions and lengths would make the most sense to own? (price also being a consideration to the newbie!)

If one was relatively new to muskie fishing and had all of the proper equipment (boat, rods, reels, tackle and release equipment), which item, proper presentation or proper boat control/positioning, would one focus on to shorten the learning curve?

Coool. Kinda like an FAQ on Muskie Fishing.

Let's see. I think the first question I ever asked was, which lure would one start out with? Bucktail, Crankbait, Topwater, Spinnerbait, Jerk Bait?

Steve- Great idea- What are the GPS coords for that sow on the Goon?

Seriously-

If you were just starting what rod & reel combo would you recommend (limited to just one rod in the boat)?

 Best value price versus performance?

Price no object, just pure performance?

I am new to muskie fishing and have just purchased most of my initial gear. I have made two trips to Lake Kincaid (So. illinois) and have gotten lucky, one fish on that I lost (first trip) then caught a 40" fish my second time out (agian, beginners luck). Now my question -- How do I determine where and how to fish a lake I have never been on before? Any trip I make will be to a lake I have never fished. I am looking for good tips on how to better my odds and to stay away from dead water.

Really, how many casts, how many trips.....

No, even better: What are the primary structure features to look for on a lake that increase your chances of finding muskies?

What are the primary types of baits that a novice should stock in the tackle box?

Good thread, thanks, m

GREAT Idea!
1. What type of structure do you start fishing on and why?
2. Why do the muskies "follow" a lure?
I am sure that I will think of more....

What are some good places to take a family oriented musky trip?

Where is a good place to get your equipment fixed-cleaned?

What is a good lenght of rod to start off with?

What are the necessary tools to have on the boat for proper release?

Why release the biggest musky you have ever caught?

What makes trophy lakes different from action lakes?

Is there a certain time of year when you target open water fish?

How much does the barometer affect fishing?

What water temps do most fish spawn in?

What water temps do most lakes "turnover"?

What exactally is turnover?

In bigger lakes, where do you think the biggest fish in the lakes live?

My post got ripped off by someone who obviously EITHER DID NOT READ IT THOROUGHLY OR DID NOT COMPREHEND IT. Although I added some texture in front of my question, my question is indeed VERY GERMANE to musky fishing and in fact pounded the most central question for all musky fisherman.
If my question were to be answered well, the answer would explain a LOT
about the sport and both the mystery and the rewards it contains...

might I say, duh?

OK!!! Thanks, everyone, there are more than 50 questions here. I will select one by closing my eyes and poking at a calculator or something about that scientific and announce the winner tomorrow, and get these answered and online as soon as I can.
