I'm looking for some advice for a new combo. Looking for something to throw my smaller lures and lighter lures with, especially for spring time. I've been looking at the Abu Garcia NACL 50 HS for the reel and the St. Croix Mojo Musky 8' MH for the rod. Not sure if this would be a good combo or if there is a better one out there for around the same price as these two. Thanks

I have a long ranger this that can throw mepps single musky killers 6" twitchers. It really loads well with smaller baits. Not tellin you to spend that kind of money. But st croix has a 8'6" mh in the premier line to check out. The extra 6" is a big advantage. Just my suggestion. And I use a toro 50 n the rod balances nice too.

That is a great reel for the small stuff.

St. Croix Premier 8' MH with a curado is one of my all time favorites. Fun/sporting to catch fish on. One of the most under rated characteristics of a musky setup nowadays.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I currently have an 8'6" Bulldawg rod that I love, the length is perfect, Ill definitely have to look into an 8'6" MH rod, and I'll most likely pair it with a Nacl 50 hs because I love the Nacl 60 that I have.

I just put together a combo for my brother, he had a Curado 301E and I had a St Croix 7'6" MH rod. Should pair up great for small stuff. He also bought a new NACL 50 5.4 and put that on the 8' H premier he had the Curado on. He should be good to go up to reg size rubber and 10s now.

Just about any of the MH rods out there will do a good job. The Premier and Legend MH's are top notch and I also really like the TI 9' MH- I can throw down to 3/4oz very well with it.

Don't overlook some of the heavy bass rods out there, they will also do a great job. One of my favorites is the Phenix Recon2 C796H. They also have some outstanding Inshore Series rods.

An often overlooked rod for small baits is the Lamiglas 8'6" XH. I know it's rated for 1-8oz, but it's an excellent small bait rod (it won't come close to throwing 8oz btw).

For reels, the Revo or NACL in 50 HS are good. The Revo SX is also a good reel as well as the Curado 300s.

I got a NACL 50 and an 8' St. Croix Premier MH for throwing smaller stuff last season and absolutely love the combo. I really like it for smaller cranks and small bucktails. I put 65lb Suffix 832 on it and have been happy with that as well.

Not sure how small you want to go, but I used a Quantum EXO 200 HPT on an Abu Garcia Vendetta 7'6" (heavy bass rod) quite a bit last year.

This was intended to be my pike rod, but ended up being my take-a-break rod, and I had a blast slinging showgirls and mepps musky killers with it. Distance and accuracy was unreal.

An option to pair with your NaCl 50 is an Abu Garcia Volatile. I have an NaCl 50 on a SC Premier 8' MH, and one on a AG 8' Volatile 3/4-4 oz. Use the Volatile combo more often. Works for pretty light lures on up to 4 oz. Can get Volatiles in lighter weights also if you go that direction.

X2 on the EXO's mentioned above. Smooth reels. An EXO 300 on a SC MH Premier or LT (if you can find a nice used one within the budget) would make a nice combo for light stuff.

A lot of good equipment out there that will do what you need... find what feels good to you, and go with it.

I have 2 m/h Croix's. top & tail and a downsizer. Love the shorter 1 for jerk's and the longer 1 for blades. Also consider the mojo bass swimbait rod for less $
