I am upgrading my electronics and have a few questions. I will have a HDs7 gen2 on the bow HDs8 gen2 next to the console and a x510c in the console. All 3 will be Networked together and will use a Ethernet cable to the HDs8 to the x510c.
1) Will I be able to run 1 shoot thru hull transducer on both units...one on a map and the other on sonar?
2) Will I have any problems using a older x510c unit with a new HDs8 ?
3) What transducer do I need so I don't get interference with the skimmer ducer on the TM
4) How important is it to install point one antenna in the bow? I had the old one (holes) in the back.
5) Any clever Ideas on how to run the temp probe from the shoot thru ducer? don't want wires over the the back of the boat
6) What size card do I need to transfer waypoints ?
thank you all for your help

To answer one question I'd install the point one, it makes a difference compared to just the internal gps. If you call lowrance they will be able to answer all your questions quickly, when I've called they have been great. You'll get a lot quicker info than waiting for replies here.

1) Yes, when Ethernet-linked, the 510 and HDS 8 will share your shoot-thru ducer.

2) No problems here.

3) Any time you run multiple ducers at the same frequency, you will have some crosstalk interference. However, it typically is only cosmetic and not a huge deal. To eliminate it altogether, you can do either of two things.

First, with the HDS 7 at the bow Ethernet-linked to other units, all three units will share ducers with "Network Sonar" enabled, and only one is powered at a time. When doing this, you just have to remember when you get up to the bow, to select the TM ducer. Then, all 3 units are reading TM ducer. Then, when you get behind the console, select back ducer.

If you don't want the front unit sharing ducers via "Network Sonar", still Ethernet link it, but just disable Network Sonar in the menu. Then, just select Stop Sonar on back unit when you move up front to fish - this cuts power to back ducer so no interference with front.

4) The Point-1 is a must-have, but for the heading sensor (built-in compass). You can put it in the back where you had the other one. The heading will share among both HDS units. Then, tell your console unit to read the back Point-1 for GPS position, and tell the front unit to read it's internal antenna for position.

5) Drill a hole just small enough for temp probe to go thru on back deck somewhere around splashwell, then cover hole with clamshell and some silicone.

6) Get the smallest card you can find. This will likely be around 2 or 4 GB. Wpt files and update files are pretty small. Actually a 512 MB card is plenty big, but hard to find cards this small anymore.
