Location: Appleton, WI | That's a very hard question to answer. sometimes the fish want the bait to have that good glide back and forth, then sometimes they want that little bit of belly roll. The easiest ones for a beginner to run are mantas, sea cow's or hell hounds. If I was to grab the bait that just catches fish in my go to box is an old reef hawg that just runs perfect with a little bit of a wobble when I pause it on the outside. But for every reef hawg that runs great I have 10 that just don't run right.

| I really like Fat A.Z. Musky Products "stinger" glide bait. But I am a little bias as I make them...
But in my travels I found that as long as the glider you have on is working like it should you will get fish to hit it. Before I started making my own I used alot of phantoms and HH. I caught a lot of fish on those baits. But not so much any more as I been using the same perch stinger for the past 2 years exclusively. Use what bait you like the best. |

If one already owned a Hellhound, would they also need a Stinger? Just wondering if the action differs, as they look very similar to a hellhound. I like the looks of the paddle tail soft plastic 'swimmer' lure on your site as well. |

Location: SE Wisconsin | The Missouri Bait. It's a glider I made myself. I made it from hard maple. It's 8" long, black with an orange belly and gold holoform sticker on the sides. I've moved a lot of fish on it. Has good side to side action and will go up and down also. It's more satisfying to catch a musky on a lure I made myself. It's worth the time and energy. Gliders are probably the easiest hard body bait to build. |

I use a few different kinds including Phantoms and Hellhounds, but the Warlock is my absolute favorite. Great action and some nice patterns too. |

I really can't say if another person "needs" another bait. But I can say the reason why i made the stinger. When I used phantoms I wished they had the glide of a HH. Don't get me wrong they work but they don't have the ease of action of a HH. When I would use a HH I wished it had the third hook like a phantom as I was losing more fish than I thought I should be.
So I set out to made I glider that has the good from both baits. I also wanted a true 8" bait. So while my bait may have some similarities if compared by memory to a HH they are not even close in body shape when you get them side by side. I also feel a stinger has better action.
But as far as a need for a person to have in their box I will never say someone has to have this bait or that bait. Some may not the the size of my bait or that it has three hooks or that it runs a little deeper.
I try to make a bait that fills what I feel is a gap in what baits are available already. I like to offer somthing slightly different than just another bait doing the same as a lot of the baits out their. But I'll be honest as most anglers al ready know there is no magic baits you have to work them all and they all will catch fish |

Muskies? From what I've seen they enjoy my phantom softails more than any of my other gliders. |

| If I had to go with one, mag sized hot tail. They can be worked at any depth or speed and the wobble on the fall can't be beat. There is nothing more exciting in Muskie fishing than watching a fish sink straight down with a wobbling hot tail and then exploding for the kill when you rip it up. |

Single strand w/ no swivel or snap will give you the best action. I use 174lb for most gliders |

Highly subjective question to answer, and what you will get is each angler's personal preference. |

Location: Madison wi | Looks like the most common answers are hell hound and soft tail phantom, i will be picking up one of each. Ive had a lot of luck with magic makers and mr Automatic. Mr automatic has always been my go to glide bait. I picked up 3 of them at the milwaukee expo a few years ago and have never looked back..... |

| Definitely subjective topic, but I enoyed reading everyones preferences. I am a fan of Phantoms and Manta's personally and I am opposite of previous poster in that I actually prefer no tail. Agian, like others have stated, it all personal preference. |

Location: Canada | I have one Manta that I fish a lot on a certain body of water. The hook up ratio has not been the greatest but it sure does get a lot of attention. I had a Hellhound custom painted to match that Manta. I also own a few other Hellhounds, a Hughes River Little Hughey that I like, a Cobb's countdown, a Widowmaker Deadhead and a few others that I hang onto. I sold/traded all my phantoms. I also own quite a few Modivators. I had several of the softail Modivators but sold/traded them all and bought more hard tail Modivators. I too am not a fan of soft tailed gliders. |

| I am a hellhound guy, but also like phantoms. Looking to expand my arsenal soon with maybe some modivators/hot tails/etc.
In regards to the soft tail topic, I own a few soft tail versions of both the hellhounds and phantoms but I've started only buying hard tails. If I want to get a soft tail action, I use the esox assault killer tails on a hard tail bait. I prefer the killer tails over the factory soft tails as I like the hook placement better on the hard tail and can always take the killer tail off and go back to the hard bait. |

| I love the manta and have great success attracting fish but ge frustrated with fish missing and swipes under the bait. I do get some solid strikes and catch lots of fish on them. I'd say I hook up 50% of the time. My success with Phantoms attracking muskie is far less. Thinking about buying some wabulls for 2015. I like the action I see on videos.
Anyone care to comment if the hookup ratio on a wabull is any better than a manta? Or are muskies just muskies and live with it
Thanks |
