Approximately 2-3 years ago, electronic manufacturers started to use micro-SD card slots in some units, so mapping companies began to offer micro SD cards, but the micro cards come inside a sleeve of a regular size SD card. This makes the newer cards compatible in both regular and micro card slots. The older mapping cards will be the larger size only. So, if his unit accepts only a micro-SD card, then he will need to purchase a new one.
