Question from a rookie:
First of all I must admit that I am very new to the Musky scene. I recently received as a gift, an Abu Garcia 6600 C5 Mag (my wife picked it out because it was green, bless her heart). It seems that the reel of choice for those of us that have not won the lottery is the 6500 C3. Any thoughts on trading in the 6600 C5 for the 6500 C3?

In my opinion, your wife struck gold.  Basically a choice between the button of the C3 or thumb bar of the C5.  The C3 has been around forever, and is still a standard, but the C5 has the versatile 5:1 ratio and a thumb bar.  Lots of folks getting the C5 these days.

Oh, have your wife buy a lottery ticket today!

sgbi,

Welcome! Are you sure you want to get into this mania we call Muskie Fishing?! LOL

I think your wife made a great choice, even if it was because of the color. I started out with C3's, and last year boughta couple C5's. I bought 2 more C5's this year. I converted some of my C3's to linecounters, and now will only use the C5's and my Morrum for casting. I like the thumb bar much better. The only thing they don't have is the clicker. I'll use my C3's for sucker fishing.

Hey guys thanks for the advice! At this point I think I will keep both (wife/reel). All I know is that the season had better open soon. I have been "substitute" fishing at Gander Mountain for the last few weeks and my debit card is slowly committing suicide.

Thanks again
