Last night Jim K posted two questions about this years contest. One was about unregistered users and the other was about people making their choices after the tournament started. All of the posts were deleted and the thread was locked by sworrall. I think these two questions should have been answered so all could see, but they were not.
The first deals with choices being made after the tournament begins. These should be made before the fishing begins. If a person wanted he could obtain info about fish that have been caught and make those teams his choices before the fish are weighed.
The other issue is unregistered users. Every friend I have is online as are most people. If I were dishonest, I could go to each of these friends and use their computers to enter my choices as an unregistered user and no one would know that I had made several entries.
If Muskiefirst is going to have a contest like this there should be rules to govern the way it is run and the rules should promote fair play. We did not have these problems last year.
I will not be participating in this contest unless these issues are addressed, but I am not holding my breath. I know my not participating doesn't mean anything to anyone else, but it does to me.

I will cover them again. MuskieFIRST Admin can identify anyone clearly, and be able to tell if someone has multiple entries if from the same IP. I could REGISTER under a different IP and name and do multiple entries. I find it hard to believe anyone would, but it could be done. I lock down the thread before any fish are entered to the Live Leaderboard. Who is going to give anyone information during the event before the entries are submitted? One or more of the teams? I bet the PMTT anglers would be more than alittle upset if someone was to suggest that they call while on the water on a cell phone if they catch a fish on Saturday so they might help the person 'cheat' to win a T Shirt. The PMTT won't even release any numbers to the PMTT anglers until they arrive at the headquarters that evening. |

| David,
I hope you continue to participate. I have 3 computers at my disposal. I have my home computer, my work desktop, and my laptop. If I wanted, I could register 3 different ID's, and then submit entries under all three. Notice, I said I could. Would I? Absolutely not. For a T-Shirt? Give us some credit here. Also, the date and time of all posts and edits are plainly shown, so I doubt anyone could pull a fast one.
With regards to Jim K's questions. Maybe the contest isn't run the exact same as it was last year. That was last year. This is this year. The rules are clearly stated. If somebody doesn't like the rules, then I guess they can decide not to play.
I think some are taking this way to seriously. Good luck with your Cave Run picks! |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The rules stated are the rules. We have always reserved the right to change the structure of any event we hold, and will continue to do so. The structure of several of our contests and events have changed over time, and so will this one, believe me. The arguments so far have been against change, and argue over portions of the change that make absolutley no difference for one's chances to win or make the Championship. The idea is to pick the Top Ten. I find it a bit off the map that anyone actually tries to choose a low scoring team! As to the comment we did not have these problems last year, I beg to differ. I scored most of the events, and can tell you there were some folks who disagreed with the way it was scored and administered last year, too. Can't keep everyone happy all the time, but we do try. The issues in this thread are a result of a lack of understanding of how registering might effect the contest and the admin mechanics of how the event is scored. The ability to post to the thread on Saturday will remain. The thread is locked down before the first fish is registered. One poster was upset because he found the thread open this week. Absolutely, I was at my desk scoring the event and adding the scores to each post. I had to open the thread to do that, had a copy of the thread sitting by the screen, and certainly could immediately tell if someone edited or tried to change an entry. Most of the contests here are based on the premise that we are a pretty honest and straightforward group and will play the game in that spirit. I refuse to assume the folks at MuskieFIRST are any other way. MuskieFIRST provides these events for your entertainment and enjoyment. If, for any reason, you do not agree with the structure, function, or features, don't play. It's free, and supposed to be fun. |
