| need a clarification , I thought an alpha dawg was a mag dawg body with a pounder tail -- Now I see " regular " AD's and "Magnum" AD's and even "pounder" AD's . Which one is a magnum body and pounder tail ? |

Location: oswego, il | Magmun alpha dog. Pounder has the two pounder tail, regular has the magnum tail. Personally, I am waiting for the micro alpha dog with the spring dawg tail. |

Location: Land of the Musky | Easy to make your own too. Just take a ripped up Dawg of one size larger and harvest the tail and melt onto a smaller one. There are also some tails out there for sale. Stop by the booths at the upcoming musky shows and you will find some. I will have some in my booth and I think R&H usually has some from various manufacturer. Not sure if Rubber H has any or not? |

I find they fish pretty comparable.. (but I don't have the experience that others on here have). The advantage that was explained to me by R&H, and I agree with is that you get a larger profile bait without adding as much weight so for guys that don't yet have an XXXH rod and a tranx OR for guys that have a bad back/should etc you are still able to throw something with a larger profile but not as heavy. |

What he said....it really comes down to a bigger profile... I use both the mag and pounder alpha dawgs with frequency. |

| I have found that the tail hooks up on the hooks much more on these baits than the mag dawgs. I have tried pushing the back hook into bait and it lasts about 10 casts before it is out. Is there any way of fixing this? |

Thumbing the Reel/Spool right before splashdown will help eliminate some" Dawg Balls".
Also, as you pull the lure towards you try to keep slack line out of your retrieve.
They are not the easiest lures to work without getting" Dawg Balls " but they do catch fish. |

| Top H2O I do not seem to have this issue with regular, mag or pounder dawgs, just with the alpha dawgs. I am not sure what the problem is put it does seem to stop when the back treble is imbedded into the bait. Maybe I will have to try a rubber band to keep it pinned. |

| Standard Alpha Dawg has Mag size tail, Mag Alpha Dawg has Super Mag (Pounder) tail, and Pounder Alpha has the 2 Pounder size tail. Just making sure that was clear for OP Manitou Dan. |
