Hey guys! I'm new to this forum and I'm wondering what you guys think of my first setup.
Toro Winch NaCl 5.4:1
SC Premier 8'6" I don't know which power to be honest.

I'll be tossing big cranks for the most part.

He just spent a chunk of money, probably would like a little reassurance that he is on the right track.

Good start!! Welcome to the madness!! Takes a little time to get used to the sarcasm on this board. Get yourself a shorter 6-9 rod with a high speed reel for jerks and your off to a good start. Got to get those lures wet to catch em. Good luck to you!

Definitely a nicer setup than I started off with!

You will like that rod for throwing and retrieving big cranks. I use a Sling Blade for my big, deep diving cranks, and I love it, especially when it comes time to figure 8 them or to set the hook.
Welcome to the jungle.

Wow, have times changed! I started with a 5'06" fiberglass St. Croix with a tip size of your little finger, a red Ambassaduer 5500 with a "high speed" 4.7 to 1 gear ratio, and Cortland Musky Master 27lb. Dacron. Kdawg

I haven't yet! I'm buying the reel this week and the rod a bit later. Just wanted to get some opinions first

Good choice on the reel and rod. Extra Heavy rod for using multiple presentations.

I think the guy who helped you get set up and catch your first musky did pretty well.

I'd say so too. He may have started an addiction though.
