Thinking of fishing Tonka for the second time ever. Need someplace decent to stay(wife going) and a bait shop that might have chubs(again, for the wife). Is it possible to rig up a quick-strike rig for her(on a bobber?) that will work for her when I am slowly moving the boat casting? Thanks.

You may have to call around to find some suckers to quick strike. I'd call Thorne brothers for bait. Lodging there are probably hundreds of hotels in the area so you should be able to accommodate your wife.

DH or Thorne are your best bet for Suckers. No clue on lodging. Rigging up a sucker under a float should not be an issue.

I live near Tonka, if you need any more specific recommendations.

DH Customer Rods and Tackle. Great selection. A few blocks from the Spring Park Bay launch.

Thorne Bros is great, but a 30-45 minute drive from Minnetonka.

Hotels, all within 15 minutes of Minnetonka:
Hilton Garden Inn Eden Prairie
Sheraton West Minnetonka
AmericInn and Country Inn and Suites both in Chanhassen

Just a heads up suckers go super quick up here, dont plan on them having any at either place. if I where you I would try and call them and work something out, I know thorne will not let you pre buy maybe dh will? but if anything call them and ask when they get there bait and try and be there early. If you are having issues getting some pm me. I could try and help ya out grab ya some and meet ya on the lake out there almost daily I know a few other shops as well and will be stocking up my self this week

I would not worry too much about finding suckers. Of all the lcoations noted above all have had suckers deep into November every year. I have never not been able to get suckers between them in the last 10 years. DH is newer so not as deep of a history but between TB and Wayzata Bait one of them historically had them. Not sure where the sucker shortage paranoia comes from every fall..

Thorne just started selling live bait 3 years ago ,, im not sure if wayzeta bait sells anything over 12 inchs, I think you are either getting very lucky or your getting smaller suckers? Dnr shut down alot of the bait ponds and have cracked down on transfer from wisconsin.. if you need "BIG" suckers 17 and up call them or you may be out of luck. Having a tuff time getting them now and I get them all over the state!?

Wayzata bait and tackle is my go to spot for lake Minnetonka. They are a small little shop and I love keeping them in business. Gotta support the little guys!

Picked up a few suckers this past weekend at Wayzata Bait and tackle and they did have 14 inch suckers, so just an FYI. If you want bigger contact Thorne and I know that some Gander MNT's in the area if you let them know a head of time they can try and get you the bigger ones too, but my first pick would be Thorne for the bigger ones.

Or Cabin Feaver Sports, Cabella's Gander the list goes on that sells them...every year I hear what is percieved as a legit issue that will cause a shortage and every year I get them. If I get shut out this year it would be a first...

dude your crazy! No disrespect but ur out of your mind you must be getting 12 inchers and thinking they are bigger then they are? Im not saying its hard to get "suckers" but 16 "17" and bigger every year is a drag race to the bait shops to get them! And if you get those suckers every year all day every day you must catch 15 55+" every year

Believe me, Wayzata Bait has tanks large enough to support the biggest suckers. I used to work some part time shifts there when I was a young man. They keep the majority of them in back and only put a handfull up front at any time, so they don't sell all of them right away. An alternate reason may be to keep Netmaster in a constant state of panic.

This thread made my morning. At least one of the aforementioned stores will have 18" minnows, I've always been able to get them for the past 4 years.
