An amazing catch, hats off to the lucky anglers.
I recall from having heard Larry speak a few years back at our banquet, that that there has always been a nascent population in Vermillion. I think he showed us a photo from the 1930s or 1940s of a decent musky being held by an angler. Given how interconnected the many lakes are in that part of MN, it makes you wonder what other Monsters are available to those who are willing to fish for the needle in the haystack.
We've been catching Muskies much farther down river than Crane(LOTW) that are very spotted, for a number of years. I know one has to be careful in terms of qualifying a fish as a certain 'type' or 'strain', but the number of spotted fish seems to have greatly increased in the areas we fish. I'm sure some of the influent rivers have/had populations of spotted Muskies but it would be nice to catch a tagged one further downstream to verify the origin. Cool stuff! |

| That is a special fish, for sure!
It probably could have been handled better, but I think we can all do better, at times.
looks like the fish is pretty beat up, with rug rash or something.

#2 - the holier than thou types here questioning the girth measurement is one of the main reasons I have given up on musky fishing. It used to be FUN! Congratulating people about catches, smiling faces in pictures, just celebrating the catch. Now it's grim faces (meaning = I know I'm good at this), accusations of lying and cheating and just general keyboard hero stuff. I get it that it's a musky, but it's still a FISH!
I guess it's just the direction the world is heading now.

What I am saying, I am fed up with anglers knowing what the record is and adjusting the girth numbers to fit the formula to break the record and releasing the fish. If you KNOW you have a record, and want to CLAIM you broke it, keep the fish. As Larry says " you shouldn't say it unless you weigh it!!!!!!!" in front of many witnesses. Awesome fish....but maybe not as awesome as claimed.

| Well, I have never seen a fish that big in person period and I am quite sure 95% of the armchair critics here havent either. Its a huge fish. Congrats to the lucky angler!
And comparing these pics to some other pics you saw of a "legit" 28" girth fish isnt accurate either.
All I care about is 1) they have nice pictures of a huge fish that is ultra rare and 2) they released it
Too many pricks out there nitpick photos but would you be happy if all these fish were dead to prove/disprove your point? SMH |
