Curious: to those of you that sell more than say...25 baits a year to customers...what % are buying them to just "have" or collect, and what % are buying them to actually fish with?

I don't sell but every lure I buy is to fish ( because rightly or wrongly I have an idea ) . I once bought a very expensive lure from an antique lure collector and when he found out I was going to fish it he wanted it back and didn't want to sell it to me. As he had my money he didn't get it back. Some of the guys in the basement are true artists and do fantastic paint work the fish really don't care but I fish rather than collect.

I sell both direct and to retail and think the majority (90%) are used. As for the custom painting I think most of those are used also. Even the higher end baits that I restore are used. Hopefully some day people collect some of my stuff. Lol.

Me , on the other hand. I am as much a collector as anything. Over the last few years I have been buying harder to find or higher end baits to keep for a rainy day. As a builder I love to see some of the better constructed baits.

My baits are only available through me. I like to have a bit of a personal relationship with my customers and people who use my product. My baits were created and produced, MOST importantly, to catch fish. THAT was my primary focus for my lures being a passionate muskie fisherman myself. I get a lot of compliments from folks on how nice they look and I totally appreciate that, but overall, my #1 concern is that they perform better than they look. Though being a lure manufacturer, I strongly still believe that action is the key to triggering fish to bite before color and pattern; most lure makers will probably disagree. I guess I'm just fortunate to have a natural knack for color layering and the creative elements to the production of muskie baits.

That said, to answer your Q...I'd still say 99.99% of my customers are buying my baits to catch fish....And thats what they are meant for.

I do not sell my baits at this time but the ones I do give to friends and family are used for the most part, some keep them but most use them so I'd say 90% are used and the other 10% are not. Sometimes it's hard to use a lure when it looks so good

Most I've made have gone to collectors as they are one of's odd balls.
Recently have been making lures better suited for fishing as in pic 2,3

It's a dive n rise bait and when hooks are removed and equal egg sinkers are clipped on, it's a spearing decoy. At rest, it floats level with it under the surface from the eyes down.
