Leaving Monday for a week and plan on doing some lake hopping on a few of my favorite lakes. Plan on fishing Squirell, Presque Isle and Van Vilet and was thinking about Crab but have never fished it. How accurate is the navionics chip for Crab? Have read and heard about how treacherous this lake is and scared of tearing up my new Recon. Also anyone have any info on Big Lake just east of Boulder Junction. Have read up on the lake but never fished it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Can't wait till Monday!! This is my absolute favorite time of year to be up there!

Got lake master on my boat, but if the navionics chip is anything like my phone app, you should be just fine. I would, however, double check on their website to see if its one they mapped - those ones are the most accurate.

Still be careful though. Nothing is marked with a buoy - not a single rock bar. Know someone who lives out there who lost their lower unit two years in a row, on the same bar. Water levels are up and clarity is decent, so as long as you play it safe you will be fine.

Never been on crab, my dad went once and that was enough for him. The contour map is enough to keep me off of it but man it looks like it would be good fishing.

Let us know how you do on Presque Isle, I want to hit that this fall.

Take it easy on crab. Most of the hazards are marked on the chip but they can be a little off. Crab has claimed many lower units.

I think the Crab map is about 60 years old. I know my navionics is not accurate. It's got the features correct but their locations are all off a little. Oxbow is easy to fish and it's getting better all the time.

Crab is a neat lake. Fished it 3 yrs ago with 2009 navionics and the structure was about 50 yards off . Scared the crap out of me, never got on the throttle.

I wish I had sonar charts so I could go drive around and map that sucker.

Oscar, I was thinking about oxbow also, never fished it but have heard of a few tankers coming out of there.

Had a decent week. Great weather and hit the peak of the fall colors. Boated 4 fish biggest being a fat 45 incher. 2 on suicks and 2 on bucktails. All of the fish were on the breaks where the weeds were close to deep water. Water warmed throughout the week and was getting 64-65 degree water temps by Saturday. Seemed to do better on the shallower lakes than the big deep ones. Probably due to the bluebird skies and clear water on the bigger lakes. Intended to fish Presque Isle on Saturday but the high blue skies scared me off so fished Van Villet insted.
