Subject: tips for the bite

Gents,
Looking for tips to get nagging musky to bite. I have locked onto 6 muskies. 2 have been caught ( finally), but I've raised the other 4 so many times that I feel we are the best of friends. I've been after these for over a month and get them to chase every outing (sometimes multiple times in an outing) also get them to go on the 8 only to see them swim off. I really want them caught before they leave their summer haunts. I'm no rookie to musky and have changed up the speed, pulsing the lure on the 8, different lures, same lure in other colors, etc... but still no bite. As much as I'd like to be there at every hour, that's not possible. Just wondering what you boys do to be successful in these situations? Thanks.

I was taught to keep casting until it annoys him and if you annoy him enough with it and keep casting my him he'll strike it to get it away from him, I've never tried it but that's what I heard. Good luck

I would move on in the relationship. Maybe they are missing an eye and can't see your bait good. Or maybe they have a sore jaw from the last guy who nailed em good

See that guy on the rip-rap by the bridge smokin' a goon? Yes, the one with the ultra lite ryobi reel on the heavy weight ugly stick, throwing the unpainted lead jig with a yellow double tail twister on a brass swivel snap. Pick him up and drive over to the Musky. Tell him to cast. It won't take long.

3 of them I could. But one is just too big to give up on and she is the one that gives me the cold shoulder the most on the 8. It is getting chilly, so perhaps a sucker is the next tactic. Problem is she is in heavy weeds and shallow.

I've had a few old timer muskie guys tell me that sometimes you need to pee em off to get em to bite. Drop a pounder on their head or go move them off their spot with your boat and then cast to them.

If that doesn't work try some scent on your bait or toss a small jig with a minnow in front of their face.

Sometimes they just won't eat. I have literally bounced suckers off a fish's snout and they still won't bite.

Lol...Yes, I have seen that guy a few years back fishing under st. Albans bay bridge. We trolled under that bridge and my buddy hooked a 45. I recall him dropping his blunt on the rocks in disbelief.

Bring a 3/40z Chatterbait with a 3" tube trailer. 5 bucks and those things pee off everything.

Bring a buddy. Start a conversation and stop watching what you are doing.

Works every time.

This happened twice in the last two weekends, BSing with my dad, had a lure hanging over the edge of the boat right on the surface, look down and see a musky looking at my lure. Of course I tried to go into a figure 8 and spooked em. Wonder how often it happens and I just don't notice.

Hit em after dark. Works for us most time. We've had em follow for hours then convert when the moon appears. The colder the better.

Aw puke! Raised her again this morning and no go. Amazing since boats line up to fish the area. Probably why she won't bite. If she wasn't pushing mid 50's, it wouldn't bother me so.

I would definitely try at night with something slower moving like a creeper, big suick or large jake. Slow rolling some 13 blades wouldn't hurt either. If boats line up on the area she inhabits she is probably conditioned to shut down during the day.

Slumpbuster, I will give that a try as you may be right. After 2 passes and nothing, I did stir the pot with the gas motor and returned 20 minutes later to get her to chase.
I also was taking advice by not paying close attention as my son was the one who noticed her before me. If I do get her, She will certainly be my crown jewel to the 2014 season. The thrill of the chase is frustratingly fun. thanks to all and to all a good night.
