Posts: 791 Location: WI | Spent a few hours in the infamous wood shop tonight working on my next order. Not to often you see pics here of things in progress. 30 Cedar blocks turned and sanded on the jet lathe. The duplicator speeds things up a bit. More to come.

Posts: 214 Location: Beaver County, Pennsylvania | awesome! once i get squared away with my brushing setup this is my next investment as it has been a dream of mine to start making surface lures (WTD and PROP) for a long while. may i ask what model you have. i am only asking because i would like one that is capable of using the duplicator.

Posts: 791 Location: WI | Thanks. I made this bait by mistake about 8 years ago when I made what was supposed to be a WTD with a tail that didn't work. So I put the jitter lip on it. The first time out it caught a fish. I then gave it to a few friends. And my buddy who lives in St. Germaine proceeded to catch over a dozen fish his first year on it. That first bait I gave him has over 30 fish on it. We sell it locally here and it is in its second generation now made of cedar with a trailer hook in the tail. More pics to come as this order continues. Edited by Trophyseeker50 7/17/2014 8:36 PM

Posts: 791 Location: WI | Next step is remove the Nubs left from the lathe. Then the front is milled off for the bill. All the holes are drilled and the rear eye is put in to use as a holding point. All the baits are sealed with white epoxy sealer and ready for paint. This order will include 8 colors. Posts: 325 Location: Otsego, MN | I just started making crankbaits/twitch baits this year and find it fun to be able to watch how others do it and compare to my process. Just seeing other peoples methods, order of work, etc. really gets the brain going and thinking of how to improve my process. Cant wait to see the rest of this journey!

Posts: 791 Location: WI | Been a few days and the top waters have finally been painted. I use auto paints and quite a bit of nail polish on my baits. Nail Polish comes in some crazy colors. And its lacquer based so it is easy to use. Good for one offs and customs. After all colors have dried 24 hours hardware is added and eyes are installed. I use a wide variety of styles of eyes and offer different options for customs jobs. The baits go on the drying racks and epoxy clear is applied. Two coats typically. They are dry with in 24 hours and are ready for final assembly. The front lip is attached. Tail hooks is put on and heat shrinked. A tail is then sleeved of the tail hook and the other hooks are installed. Out the door and ready for war ! Hope you guys like this thread. I think it's cool to see a bait from start to finish. We all have our own methods and tricks, but one of the coolest things about our sport is the fact that there are so many different low volume builders that do such good work. Posts: 791 Location: WI | It has a better hooking percentage than most other baits I've tried. Probably due to a steady retrieve and three hooks. Deffinetly a different look than fish are used to.

Posts: 791 Location: WI | I use fluorocarbon leaders. When I first started making these everybody used titanium. Those work fine also.
