| if anyone cares i finaly got to test my new saltist out the Saltist H-C Levelwind Casting STTLW20H-C is awesome. i have it on a 9 ft 3 okuma with 100 lbs test. it casted like a rocket no issues at all with backlash. i was throwing my home made double 8s, 10, and 14, the 8s and 10s was to easy to bring them in the 14s gave some resistence. i then threw some big 10 inch smuttly dawgs and other jerks. the reel is very impressive and would highly recomend for those looking for heavy duty at a reasonable price. that reel can handle some big stuff |

Location: Hayward, WI | That's good to hear. I bought the same reel over the winter and am looking forward to trying it out. Some complain about the backlashes on these reels, and not others. I wondered about putting 100lb on mine in hopes to reduce backlashes.
What kind of 100 lb line did you spool yours with? |

Location: Chisholm, MN | Hey Curleytail, I've been using Saltists for 4 seasons now. The new H-C's are very very nice for the cost. I personally like 100 pound Masterbraid with it. I get very few back lashes and can cast most baits very well. On the flip side, one guy I know who bought one last year could not make a single cast without a backlash. He was an experienced caster. Sometimes they take a little learning curve. |

| ya I use masterbraid. I also set the spool brake so when you release the free spool the bait hardly falls at all. it still casted along way |

Saltist doesn't have spool brakes, you were tightening the spool tension/cast control knob. I loved my Saltist for heavier stuff, even weighted bucktails, but just had too many issues, like 2 a day, for my tastes when casting lighter stuff. Oh well, too each their own. |

| I have used the older model ones myself now for 4 years now also and love them. Hated it the first day on the water with it, stuck with it and now i dont have any backlash issues with it. Love it for pretty much any lure in the box. Also have used 80 and 100 pound braid, no probs. Good reel for the $. |

| I agree Mark. I have been using one for 3 seasons now in Indiana where I fish from march to December and I have beat the hell out of this reel and have had zero problems. I constantly used it for pounders mag medussas and used it every time I was trolling at night with 12 inch big games ,12 inch triple ddds and many 12 inch deep divers. It is definitely the best reel for the money hands down . |
