| Hello
Im looking for the perfect rod to cast baits like a pounder. Im have a St. Croix Big Dawg in use. That rod is perfect for baits like the Magnum Bull Dawg. But not strong enough to cast a day long bigger baits.
I mate of mine had a Musky Innivation rod in use, but I dont like the kind of blank that the use for the MI rods. It feels to slow for me.

Location: Minneapolis, MN | If you have a big dawg and don't think it works for pounders, then either your doing something wrong or you are confused. I used a big dawg for 3 days straight last fall throwing nothing but pounder dawgs and monster medussas and I had absolutely no issues with the way it performed.
I assume by too slow you are referring to the action. So that probably also weeds out Tackle Industry blanks as they are medium fast, which what a lot of guys use around here. I'm sure people will eventually come along and tell you to get a XH or XXH Predator from Thorne Bros. |

| I have owned most of the premium rods to throw pounders with. 3 years ago I changed over to tackle industries. You will love these rods, I use the 9' XXH exclusively for mag dawgs and pounders. regardless of price, these are some of the best rods I've ever used. |

| I think the TI XXH is better than the big Dawg cause it loads up deeper into the blank making the casting easier and the bait feel a little lighter. But that's just me. |

Location: St.John, Indiana | As was said in prior threads, the Big Dog is not a true pounder rod. I have one and used it many times for throwing big (Pounder+) rubber and it will not do the job correctly. IMO the MI Mark L. 4x -8'3"(12-50oz)pounder rod is the rod for the job. I have not used TI xxh 9' rod so I cannot comment on its performance.
This year I added the MI 9' (8-40oz)monster Hvy rod to the rotation and hope it does as good of a job as the 8'3". I don't agree with it being slow? As these rods have the backbone to toss and rip Hvy rubber all day long.
There is allot of info as was said above ,do the search and find the rod that fits your style.

I dont mean that the BigDawg ist not powerfull enough. I can throw pounders with that rod, but it feels not perfect for me.
Had anyone try the XXH Assault Stick from Chaos Tackle? |

Location: Minnesota | It comes down to how much you want to spend. I bought a TI rod a few years ago did not like how it loaded so i bought a predator XXH 9'8" put a Tranx HG great pounder rod . Hard to beat it |

| I really like the Musky Innovations 9' Monster heavy Pro series rated 8-40oz for all my large baits. Customers that tried them have bought a lot of them from me.

| Tackle industries rods are way to soft for pounders. If you want a straight pounder and big crank rod go with the lijewski or got the tamer xxh rod. The predetor is nice but not much better then a big dawg. Also to consider is the new assault stick rod. For the price the assault stick or tooth tamer is the way to go. I've been through all rods and wasted a lot of money for a good pounder rod. The musky innovTions are nice but the butts are too short. |

| Everyone's idea of perfect is different.
I disagree that the TI XXH is too soft!!!??? It has plenty of backbone but yes it flexes deeper into the blank than the big dawg.
But someone else will say super stiff is the way to go. The TI rod is a great price for a great rod IMO. I have a legend, a Pete maina basspro and a premier - I like them all and would not trade one of them - they range in price from $70-250. |

| TI 9' XXH is a superb pounder rod. I suspect esox 4130 has never used one. Lots of great options mentioned just depends what type of rod action you prefer. |

Location: WI | I have a St Croix xxxh fast rod with a lure rating of 30oz. I have had a much better hook up rate with this rod and attribute that to being stiff enough to move the rubber from the mouth of fish and burying hooks. |

Hands down the Lijewski 8'-3" for me. Mark prefers the 7'-9" and I've thrown his quite a bit but still prefer the 8'-3".
I throw pounders a lot, along with monster medusas and for me the Big Dawgs cork handle is too short and doesn't load as well as the Lijewski.
The triple x loads ok and casts fine but have lost smaller fish at the boat. Little action at the tip. |

| ToothTamer rods in the 9' XXX perform well. The longer handle is a benefit for rod balance and casting. I have also use the 8' Jawbreaker without incident for Pounders/Monsters...longer rods in the 8"6' or 9' seems to be a bit nicer for me however... personal preference. |

I have owned one and it loads up way too much. You waste half of every pull if your working a pounder or bigger bait moderate to fast. I love the it xh for dub 10s but the xxh is to slow action and to soft for me. If you want a cheaper route go with the 9ft xxxh tooth tamer. |

The monster heavy 8'3" rated 10-50 oz's ? Just checking as the 7'9" is rated at 4-16 oz's and there is another 8'3" hall of fame series with that same rating. I have the 9' TI XXH and it's way too soft for pounders in my opinion (it works but better suited for mag dawgs and big tubes etc.). How long is the rear grip length on the 8'3" monster heavy? Only available in full grip (this is what I want, my TI is split grip and as much as I like the split grip I'd much prefer a longer full cork grip for big plastics)? |

Are you using this rod? The 10-50oz monster heavy or the 4-16oz in the 8'3" ? |

| The Lijewski's 8'-3" Rod is very interesting for me. But difficult to get in Europe... At the moment I think it is more easy to get an AssaultStick from Chaos Tackle.
The original handle of the BigDawg was to short for a unstressed day of fishing. I made it a little bit longer, less more than 20 inch.

I'm not made of St. Croix LT money so I was going to go with a Bulldawg rod but since I had a BPS gift card & also got $25 off for rod trade-in I ended up buying the Abu Garcia Volatile rod 8'6" fast extra heavy, 6-16 oz. lure, 50-100 Lb. line with 11 guides plus the tip. Haven't used it yet but hopefully I'll like it. |

The 8'-3" is rated for 10-50 ozs (or close going from memory)
His 7'-9" is more than the 4-16 oz listed above....that I know but don't know the oz rating off the top of my head. I will call him tonight. |

| Esox 4130, I like how the TI 9' XXH loads up, you can cast a pounder or a Mag Hardhead a mile with very little effort, that keeps me in the game all day. I dont work pounders extremely fast but I will test your theory out this summer. |

Location: IGH Minnesota | Tooth tamer XXX or their new 4X are a fine option. 17 1/2 inch handle if I recall. Also have heard good things about the AssultStix but have not tried them yet. |
