You will catch more fish if you trolled an 8" Believer, Jake or Depthraider. The largest bait I would ever troll or throw would be the 9" Grandma. Just MHO.

I just caught 28" on 13" Jake this morning so I guess it depends day by day.

For me the best fall trolling lure is the 13" Grandma, no contest. I also catch a few on the 14" Jake though. I've tried the Plows and Hookers but I seem to do better with lures that run a little shallower. That said I have caught some fish on those Slammer Deep Minnows and the 14" Believers.

I like the large lures, I don't think they limit the amount of fish you catch at all. I actually think I get more hits on the larger lures than the smaller lures. 10" Jake or 10" Believer would be the smallest lure I would run.

I like to troll a couple of different size lures at the same time and let the fish tell me what they want. I've had good days on a depth raider, I've had good days on a 12" DDD.

That said I like big baits more, but I always throw something normal size out just in case.

There are a lot of factors that can determine trolling success a lot more than just lure size. Type of lake, water color, forage base, fish location, are all factors to take into account. If you haven't done so already I'd suggest getting a copy of Tom
Gelb's excellent book: "Musky Strategy". When you take everything into account it will probably help you decide which lure to run on any given day. I've got everything from 5" lures like old Bagley's, Tuff Shads, Baby Depthraiders up to the large Jakes, Hookers, Slammer's etc. that have been mentioned already.

Can't it be tuned, by bending the pull eye the direction you want it to run? Or did it not tune, when you tried.

Fall crankbaits - To me are bigger baits, with slow wobble. (Hookers, Hanna, Parrywinkles, Nils, 10" Beilever, Big Jakes & Gmas, Magnets, Frankies.....)

I can't believe nobody is mentioning the Custom X stuff. 12" Mag along with the headlock are my two favorite cranks.

That sounds like a broken headlock. It is supposed to wander around, but not just to one side.

The pull eye is three position insertable.... not a standard configuration...bending it would loosen the fit..... and totally loosen the set up...I guess i should have looked at it closer when i bought it......can see the lip was not set straight...just cant see giving it much water time the way it runs....

Give Blue Water Baits a try they seem to work very well all year around, and do very well in the fall. They have lots of pictures on facebook

Duff makes some awesome baits. I now have both a headlock and supernatural, despite being limited in my fishing time, because I have seen how they work. Had he not replied on here, I would have told you to contact either of the places you can get them, as they also stand behind their products. The good thing about the headlock, is you can also cast it. The twitching/ripping action is great, as is the kick-out while trolling.
