Posts: 1220 | OK it's not up North, but you can't fish there yet and some of us are fishing the Fox Chain right now. Best taste for me is the Sandbar on Lake Marie where I had an Italian Sausage with grilled sweet peppers and onions and fries that was just about heaven last Saturday. The best deal was the week prior when I had the lunch special that the Thirsty Turtle-grilled cheese sandwich and bowl of really good soup for only 5 bucks. Going back tomorrow and will repeat one of those.

Overall Trelands is great too for drinks and food... Steve. I'll be staying at Treelands August 25 through September 3rd. If you're up there around then, send me pm and we'll have a beer.

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | i'd have to say my all-time favorite is the Alpine on Oneida Lake in Rhinelander, WI.. nice people, great cheeseburger, an old dog mixed with locals and resorters alike. as close as you can come to the old northwoods vacation-spot as you can come. second favorite with the same flavor is the Birchwood on Moen's ... haven't been to either in a few years ... need to get back to both of em again someday soon!

The burgers are great and you can enjoy a few Rhinelander Shorties while gazing at some of Mr. Worrall's Pelican Lake monsters on the walls or the cutie, Miss Beth, behind the bar!

Posts: 1185 Location: Iowa | For me it is pretty hard to beat "The Landing" or "Bayview" on Lake Vermilion. Gone to Crown-town and James-town on more than one occasion at both places...Their walleye sandwich is pretty amazing as well!

The Birchwood on Third Lake in the Moen Chain has really good pizza as well as the burgers that were mentioned. Lots of good WI cheese. They also have Spotted Cow on tap and beer specials most days. As a bonus, I can walk there from my cottage

Posts: 159 | Great thread--- Grew up 3 houses south of Musky Shores on Squirrel Lake in the 70s-80s-- then it was called Laurel & Hardies----legendary all you can eat perch fish fry--and the old school country band called the Drifters---Great memories with my mom and dad. Now we have a cabin on Lake Vermilion (West End)---and "The Landing" is our new favorite---took my wife there the first time we were up cabin shopping---and the cabin we liked was right down the road---had a good feeling about it right away! -Big Perc is dead on---the Walleye sandwich is amazing---Also Friday night Fish Fry---with all you can eat and salad bar-- best deal anywhere near---not to mention great view-atmosphere---always great service---real nice people from the resorts-island cabins, and road access cabins--little bridge leading to it---boat landing right next store---docks for boats/sea planes, outdoor bar/tent, bonfire area etc.... During the busy summer on a hot/humid Friday/Saturday night---feels like the old days at the resort growing up as a kid in Northern Wisconsin. The only thing that compares for me is the old glory days at Bosakies in Minocqua when it was in its prime during the 70s -80s--also legendary Friday night fish fry. Posts: 1916 Location: Greenfield, WI | Here is another vote for The Hillside resort on LVD. The character of this ancient log cabin is a good as the food! It matches the old Holiday Bar on North Twin, before it burned down. The new place is very nice, especially if you hadn't ever seen the old place, but its not the same. For me, "Up North" character matters as much as quality food. Edited by Steve Van Lieshout 5/1/2012 8:27 PM

Dane is no longer the owner. I lived on Squirrel lake for a number of years. Never really cared for MS, but the other places are great. I really miss that area.

Posts: 393 Location: Hopefully on the water | Another vote for Hillside on LVD. Ice cold Killians on tap. Burgers have always been good. Reel Living on Lost land in October. Watched a couple of Badger games a little longer than maybe we should have in October. Bents Camp on the Cisco Chain.. too much character there. Blue Goose up on Mille Lacs. Some crazy stuff there. Heck we even saw Elvis there one night. Pelican lake is Gerrit lakeview. Lot's of laughs there. My stomach hurts after listening/laughing at/with Norm. But the Best overall ON the water is in the boat for a pull on the blackberry. That is because it means we just caught a musky:)

Posts: 86 Location: north metro, MN | x3 for the Landing on Lake Vermilion. Love that place, great food and great people, love the feeling you get walking a joint like that.. usually there are a couple people in there that smell like muskies which of coarse is always a good thing.
