Hello,

I am an pike angler from the Netherlands.
I am looking for a new rod and reel. I will use this combo for jerkbaits (up to 9"), crankbaits and some trolling. I'll also fish a decent amount from the shore (this works pretty good over here) so I prefer a rod that is not too long.
Looking to spend between $500-600 for the rod and reel.

Some advice woud be great!

Thanks

Check out thornebros.com or give them a call. Ask for Pat!

for $500-600 American you can get quite a good rig. may i suggest you don't need to spend this much to get a nice setup.
AC300 AVID reel = $229
Shimano Calcutta 400B = $229

either of these reels will do the job.. as for rods

Okuma 8'6" or any size really = under $120
St croix premier rod = $165
Gander rods = under $100

If you really want to spend that, go with a custom rod from Thorne Bros, or a Calcutta TE reel for $369 and add one of the rods i mentioned.

I'd go with a St. Croix AC300A ($230) with a St. Croix TM79HMF (236 cm, $300) Ben's fishing tackle (sportvisserijbedrijf) would be the place to look locally.

Go with a SHIMANO CONQUEST 400, this reel has a dual anti-rev and is the finest reel made today, reatails for $455.00 as for a rod I would look at TACKLE INDUSTRIES 7'6" - 8' Rod 1-6oz, it comes with 2 handles a long and short one, and with no handle is only 7' long, with the short handle the rod is 7'6" and with the long handle the rod is 8', retails for $114.95. The rod is trim in gold so the CONQUEST is smoking hot on this rod.

I'd recommend St Croix Legend Tournament TM69XHF (290$) with Daiwa Luna (230-240$). Best combo I ever had.

St Croix 8'6" Premier XH and the reel of your choice. The reel depends on your style of fishing. I prefer Garcia reels, and while I haven't broken one, I don't rip Super D's with a 6500 C3......Old 7000 and thumb the spool.

My favorite outfit is an Okuma 8'6" telescoping XH, I throw everything I like to throw with it. Matched with an Okuma Induron, it's about $240.00.

Rod- Custom from thornbrothers- 9' predator H or XH your choice $369.00
Reel- Diawa Luna 300- Great all around reel- $250.00

I went a little over your budget but it will save you money in long run.

This is a sweet set up!

The thorne customs rods are on sale at reeds for $150 ($250 retail) they have an adjustable handle for length, and a daiwa Luna $250.

Please dont forget the transport cost to the Netherlands these can easily be 100+ for a one piece rod.
So if you are gonna order in USA check shipping prices they vary greatly between all shops.
MI & St.Croix rods can be bought on our own continent ( higher price though), wich i did myself.
Bought an 8'6" St.croix Premier XH 4-10 Oz matched with an Okuma Induron 400 LH so far i like it alot, but my fishing time was limited so far this year so i couldnt do a full shoulder damage test.
If you have questions PM me.

After debating long and reading some posts on here I decided not to go with the Daiwa luna because of the anti reverse failing quickly. I now bought a Shimano CTE 401. Would a St Croix LTM69XHF go good with this reel? Or will a premier with the same specs be good enough?

Piker you'll love the LT it's a great stick. The premier would be fine but why spend 350$ on a reel and not get the best rod St.Croix makes.

That's probably the best combo a person can get. You'll be more than satisfied.
